SS the 5th: Guessing Thread!

OK, here goes again. The bold ones are the names I think I'm certain of, but now you're going to tell me I've got them wrong, aren't you?

Well, I am at a school in Brixton right now so I can't confirm for definite till I get home to my crib sheet, but...I can see straightaway that you have one in regular type that could be Bold :)

Okay, let's see what we have here, Kerry...

1. CC
2. DEO
3. Chrispy
4. Quellist
5. Remedy
6. Chrispy
7. Mouse
8. Victoria
9. Jastius
10. Darkchrome
11. Robert McKay
12. Glitterspeck
13. Johnnyjet
14. Springs
15. Jastius

Actually, that's not bad at all. You have six correct but one of your bold ones is wrong. Your 2 and 12 are nearly correct.

So, well done you ;)

Did any of you ever play Mastermind?
Not the quiz show with the chair - I mean the old board game where you had to guess the colours and order of hidden pegs. The peg-hider (?) gave you a black peg for the right colour in the right position, and a white one for the right colour in the wrong position.
J'accuse Phyrebrat of wielding peg-power ;)

Anyhoos, I've really enjoyed reading the excerpts but I confess that I still haven't learned enough of anyone's styles to make an informed guess on my own. So I've attempted to work my way thru the pegs to come up with a list, avoiding the 2 I know...

1. Ratsy
2. Glisterspeck
3. Chrispy
4. Mouse
5. Quellist
6. CC
7. Chrispy
8. Victoria
9. Robert McKay
10. Johnnyjet
11. Remedy
12. DEO
13. Kerrybuchanan
14. springs
15. Jastius

What have we here? sounds like someone raising their hand against my equanimous administration ;)

Well you have five white pegs; we already know three of them are Chrispy, Springs and Victoria but you have two which no-one other than you has correctly identified so far, so well done! Both of them feature the same number in their ... er... number.

I do? Yay! :D Thanks jastius!
Is that sneaky Phyrebrat just trying to mislead me?
I'm so tempted to have another go but am going to be offline now, until the end of the weekend, and suspect all may be revealed by the time I return!

We need help with an unwritten story...

Help me, Obi-Chrons, you're my only hoo-o-oope....

use the force, phyreluke..

...you know that this kind of fan fic is right up @starbeasts alley?

we need the mark of the beast!

Oh no! It was not intentional! I was brought up on the rule that white peg = right colour, right place; black peg = right colour, wrong place.

So, yes, you did very well! Thanks @Robert Mackay and @jastius for your help :)

I know I was goofing off about being a control freak and all the power and whatnot, but I swear on my midichlorians that it was a mistake!

I was away from the computer for more than a week. I don't think I would have attempted to make any guesses anyway.

All of the stories are quite well written. They are also extremely imaginative, particularly when compared to my own mundane offering. (Not a trace of speculative content to be seen from the excerpt!) At least my style was not as transparent as usual.

I am rather curious as to why Mouse does not think I would use the word "minced."

Is that a small slap needed there? Mundane....? I think not.

I was going to go for you, Victoria but the run-on sentence near the start made me think it wasn't as you tend towards short, punchy sentences. So you caught me out. :)

It's not that I don't think you'd use it, it's that I thought it didn't really fit there and as your work is always absolutely spot on for me, that teeny bit of not-spot-oned-ness threw me!

just thinking of that one sentence you had springs that seemed to fill up a paragraph by itself. :D
you are so brave. anything longer then six words the nuns used to slap us with the ruler for..
makes note. short sentances stand out as tell tales...

isn't minced used in adjunct with or as a synonym to sashayed over here...
i have always thought it a word that much deserved to break out of its pie crust...

oh no! a spot.. but spots are nice, mousie. after all, everyone likes dalmations.
