The Old Solar System

I should like to revive this thread now because the new website www.solarsystemheritage.com (author: yours truly) has been created to enlarge upon its ideas. Any feedback on the site most welcome, but also in particular any information about retro authors.

Neeeeat site! I am forwarding the URL to friends who would be interested.

I've just read the first chapter of the book you mention and it reminds me: The theme of the asteroid progenitor planet would be worth a thread in itself.

A favorite of Heinlein's, appearing not only in Stranger in a Strange Land, but also in (at least) Space Cadet and Between Planets.

I know the Space Cadet reference - I had not remembered the others. It's ages since I read Stranger in a Strange Land and it was never one of my favourites, too much waffly grokky hippy bed-hopping for my square prudish tastes, but I like Between Planets; it's the one with the Venusian lizard called Sir Isaac, if I remember correctly. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Many thanks. Note that if you feel in the mood you can submit your own comments to the site - see the "tales unwritten" and "poetic licence" pages. The latter is reached via "debates" on the navigation bar.

Yep, that's the one. Seems a little silly writing spoilers for a sixty-five-year-old book but
the hero's parents discover the invincible secret weapon that helps the rebels defeat Earth by their research into remnants of the destroyed Fifth Planet

In "Stranger" it's a passing reference to the Martian Old One's awesome power, as they destroyed the Fifth Planet eons before.

That is interesting. I must track that one down. Even passing references will help my Asteroid Progenitor Planet page - the topic isn't exhaustively covered!
