Why Aren't Smaller Chapters Named?

I honestly don't think it matters one way or the other. If you like naming them, go for it, no matter the size. If you don't, then don't. :)

Mine are reasonably small (6 or 7 pages) and as I'm using multiple POV I do the GRRM thing and use the POV character name as chapter heading. (Rick Riordan uses this for his Heroes of Olympus YA series too; I find it helpful both as a reader and as a writer, to remind myself whose head I'm supposed to be in!)

I name my chapters. I'm guessing that perhaps the no titled chapters still pertain to the chapter title previous? I've never seen it done before, but apparently it happens. :coffee:

By no means; it dates back a very long time indeed, and can be seen in a great deal of classical literature. It depends on the author's preference and the original venue in which a work appeared (e.g., pulps and other serialized forms often used these as an additional method of catching a reader's eye, somewhat analogous to "cliff-hanger" endings). It largely depends on what one is trying to do with the work, and whether or not such titles add to the overall effect one is attempting to achieve....
I like the idea of naming chapters. I loved how JK Rowling did it in H.P., but I guess that is something I see a lot more in kids fiction (even though she said she didn't necessarily write it for kids).
