Prospect of War by Ian Sales' new cover...

Yeah, never noticed that! I know I should LOL.

Good points there Ralph. I will sort both of them. Cheers

I must admit I love the setting, Edwardianish but in Space. Brilliant writing.

And Serendipity, the ship has a gizmotron down below in engineering that deals with that problem LOL

Huh? How can a gizmotron (an effects device for the electric guitar and base guitar, invented ca. 1973 by two English rock musicians) stop the recoil from the cannons? Is there something I've missed here?

Off to have a real ke-boggling time with this idea....

Someone halp! I can't see any pictures on this forum!

Yeah! Humour!

Pictures are now showing up. Very nice, I like the way it has its roots in a sea faring warship. Nice colour contrasts too, nothing garish.

The Gizmo ( I believe it was used on Led Zeppelin's In Through The Out Door) - a plate that clamped over the bridge with six rotating plectrums. I always wanted one but settled for an E-Bow instead(which I love) :)

I suppose the ship could have recoil dampers (like Star Trek's inertial dampers)

This is an Ian Sales' story. Does anyone doubt his ability to write believable hard SF? :)

Just saying :)

I've read three parts of his Apollo quartet so - no - I don't doubt his ability to write believable hard SF(y)

I think the cover is absolutely wonderful, and it makes me eager to buy the book. (Or at least download the sample when it's available, and then buy the book.) The font works well with the art and doesn't distract from it, but I agree with those who think you should do something about Ian's name. Maybe move it below the ship -- swap it around with the series title? -- so that you can make it bigger, and use a color that shows up better against the background? The size of the font would work fine if he had a longer name (clearly, his parents ought to have thought further ahead when he was born, and considered how it might look on a book cover), but since his name is so short it gets a bit lost, and I think you probably need to make it bigger.

But the planet is stunning, and I love the ship. You have really hit your stride with the cover art, Gary.
