Discussion -- April 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

What a project Ashleyne! Well done and thank you. :D

I've thought about attempting such an undertaking, but never quite steeled myself for the task. Did you enjoy it? :)

It was challenging, but fun. It made me enjoy the stories themselves much more than I would've done.

Amazing entries. Who would´ve thought so much could be said so cleverly in such few words? I´m new here, but felt very welcome with a few undeserved mentions and all the time-consuming reviews. I haven´t shared much of anything--ever--but now I´m looking forward to it, and my writing is spurred on. It´s been incredibly fun! (My vote is for The Judge, btw).

A last minute review too, yay, thank you Ashleyne.

A few more pow pow votes for the Judge and now it's neck and neck.

This is my shortlist:

Spoiler – Luiglin
Choose your own adventure – Juliana
Epic Spelling War at the Mountainous Moon of Madness – Moonbat
The Case of The Shropshire Writer – Mosaix
Not at All Quiet on the Western Front – The Judge
Give my regards to Ned Stark – Teresa Edgerton

My vote goes to Off the Page by Culhwch. I really liked this story from the moment I read it.

And thank you for the honourable mentions, Telford and Bowler1, and the shortlisting Perpetual Man. :)

Ashleyne – I really liked reading your thoughts on all the stories. Well done.

Thanks to Perp, Ashleyne and Victoria for the reviews and to A Fare Wells, Perp, Julianna Grimward, Holland and Moonbat for the mentions.

Now here are mine:

Parson - Brilliant in-joke.
The Dusty Zebra - For playing along.
Teresa Edgerton - She should be careful. When I tried that, I had major industrial action on my hands. :D
A. Fare Wells - It has happened to all of us at some point or another
Bob Senior - Shudder-worthy stuff!
Big J - If they win, I wonder what genre they'll choose?
Culhwch - Spooky!
Remedy - I've felt like that with most of these challenges!
Willwallace - Wait for the remake version.......
Ihe - Wha'? Surreal.

And my vote goes to..... Remedy, for describing "75-word panic" so accurately.

Multiple thanks:

Moonbat for another combo short list.

Bowler 1 for a combo mention

Ashleyene B. Watts for a combo review.

High Eight for a solo short list.

This was a really strong month for stories, I thought - at the start, when the theme and genre were named, I didn't really know what to expect. Lots of originality, it turns out, and plenty of self-referential stories that embraced the Chrons community. Talk about meta!

I don't normally vote until the very end (I'm so slack I usually haven't read the stories until then...), but last month I may have forgotten to vote, and I didn't want a repeat this month. Two stories stood out for me - Ihe's Alpha and Omega and Teresa's Give My Regards To Ned Stark. I've gone back and forth on these two, but in the end I went with Teresa. My story in the very first seventy-five word challenge also played on Martin's propensity to kill chracters at the drop of a hat, so Teresa's story was close to my heart!

Also many thanks for all the votes and mentions for my story so far! It's been wonderful to see it pop up in this thread so often!

Thanks for the shortlisting, Moonbat.

Whoops, I haven't been in this thread for a while and just saw this. For the record, I was just the mechanic that stuck it up -- the Challenge theme and genre belong to Cat's Cradle. :D

Well, thanks for being a top mechanic, and thanks to Cat's Cradle for a top theme.

Many excellent and creative interpretations of the theme & genre. Certainly much more variety than one would expect. However, after much rumination . . .

My Long List, Short List and **** Favorite ****

2. Mouth to Mouth - Ashleyne. B. Watts
3. Choose Your Own Adventure – Juliana

4. The Perfect Crime - Victoria Silverwolf
