Discussion - May 2015 100-Word Anon Writing Challenge (#6)

Thank you Juliana and also semi thanks to Cascade for the below which I'll take as a virtual vote ...

Mirror of the Soul- this was very wrong in all the right ways and had a touch of the dark lord's humour about it so I will guess, Luiglin
even though it was Kerry's tale ;)

So, thanks for the vote farntfar, glad you liked it :D

I do enjoy the guessing, although it is hard to discern an authorial voice or style in just 100 words, some times it shines through or not...

Eye's of Fate clearly had people mistaking Juliana for Victoriana, but I don't thinkk it is selling either short to suggest that they can both write in a lyrical, poetic fantasy style that explains the error.

No-one picked mine (apart from Perp), which I suspect, just comes from my still being fairly new at this, I certainly didn't try to hide it and stylistically it was pretty standard for me.

Well done Kerry for claiming my vote. really enjoyed your story.

Hi everyone - the 100 Worder Challenge for June is up now here

And the discussion is up here!

And thanks once more to Kerry. We shall not see her like again. And now her watch is ended.

Monty Python - I'm not dead yet!

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.

The Dead Collector: What?

Large Man with Dead Body: Nothing. There's your ninepence.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.

The Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.

Large Man with Dead Body: Yes he is.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not.

The Dead Collector: He isn't.

Large Man with Dead Body: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm getting better.

Large Man with Dead Body: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.

The Dead Collector: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I don't want to go on the cart.

Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, don't be such a baby.

The Dead Collector: I can't take him.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel fine.

Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, do me a favor.

The Dead Collector: I can't.

Large Man with Dead Body: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.

Thanks to my three voters: hopewrites, TitaniumTi and Sancho. Thanks also to all mentioners and those who said kind things about my entry, Brothers Obverse. :)

Chrispenycate, I love your entry - Encapsulated Diffractions. Fantastic language and story.

People blamed for my entry: Victoria, Perp Man, Kerry (x2), Juliana, Crystal Haven, Luiglin, Cat's Cradle, Parson, Jo Zebedee (x2), Harebrain and Jastius

Peoples' stories I was guessed as author: Blue Phoenix, Jo Zebedee, DG Jones (x2) and Victoria

My correct guesses: Robert MacKay and Jastius

Absolutely chuffed with those results! :D

----------

Brothers Obverse stemmed from thinking about two meanings of reflection. The self-reflection a prisoner has all the time for. And the mirrored image of two hands (nearly identical but opposite). As hopewrites noted, I had my character choose to keep the worst side of himself in the face of despair.

I owe you an apology as well, @Remedy because in the early hours of the morning I spelled your entry incorrectly (Brothers Observe instead Brothers Obverse) and didn't actually notice until after the voting finished. Sorry.

A case of Eric Morecambe: You played all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order ;)

+ of course, no apology required :)

Good to be back after a week. Thanks to the one vote for my entry, and much gratitude for being mistaken so often for Juliana, which is a great compliment.

My entry was deliberately a change of pace for me. The basis of it is a short poem I wrote many years ago, all of which is forgotten except the line "I am neither self nor shadow, but chimera." I built the rest of the entry around that.

Many congratulations to mosaix.

I just thought to check the final poll results, and I discovered that my story, Depletion, received a vote! Apologies, jastius, I missed this somehow last month. And a BIG thank you as well--the vote is greatly appreciated. :) CC

Congratulations mosaix, you God of the Unknown Challenge!! I think that's your second win?

I'm a bit worried about this - seriously. I was convinced this was my first win in the 100. I'd completely forgotten about 'Done By The Book', my entry in February when the theme was 'The Cloud'. Then, yesterday, I seemed to remember that I had previously set a theme and genre - Family and Horror - but how could I if I hadn't won previously? I've just been back and looked and found 'Done By The Book'. I only really remembered it as mine when I read the last line and that brought back the pleasure I got from writing it. I'll be 70 early next year and although I'm generally very fit and have a buoyant personality things like this bring me up short a bit.

Dont worry Mosaix. I'm 33 and memory lapses like that happen to me too. From your posting style I'd venture to guess that your mind is as flexible as someone half your age.
