Pronounciation of abbreviations

If you can remember the 1960s, then you weren't really there.

Though watching The Man From UNCLE while on LSD would have perhaps been unusual.
 
Soon after posting about how the author can hint at how some abbreviations should be pronounced, abbreviations that start with some consonants, I recalled that the same is true, some of the time, for one of the vowels. (I'd have mentioned it earlier, but I was worried that it might provide a further hint for my entry in May's 75-word challenge.)

That vowel, you'll have already realised, is U. See how one can see how a word (let alone an abbreviation) beginning with U should be pronounced: a uniform; an uncle (as in an U.N.C.L.E. agent).
