DISCUSSION -- June 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Do you guys who enter early (I'm not talking to you Chrispy) find yourselves impatient for the month to end and a chance to write another?
I always find if I enter too early I not only get a bit worried that I could have added more or changed a word, but that I then have to wait sooo long for voting and results and the next comp?
So I wonder if you find this, or is it the other way round, you're pleased to have entered and have it out the way so you can concentrate on other writing for the rest of the month?

They may not be good but I do enjoy writing my 75s and would happily do them weekly (I'd say daily but suspect it would become a chore).

I find I get a bit OCD like so having it locked down stops me tinkering it to death.

I'm also not overally fussed about the voting, and would be fine with people using the like button (but I'll not go there again).

Yes, a bit. But I try to enter as soon as I have an idea and an execution that I'm happy with. With all due respect to Chrons, it's not worth agonising about.

Thanks for the review, Perpetual Man! I'm glad to've wrote a happy feeling story. I'm not all doom and gloom :)

@Moonbat -

When I write a story, I get scared that someone might post a story too similar to the one I've written, and this fuels my impatience. I don't get impatient about the votes until the last week of the competition.

There's been one or twice when I felt I could have added something or made it better after already posting, but I do spend hours obsessing over my stories and I put them through text-to-speech software to eliminate silly mistakes. The majority of the time I'm happy with my effort.

Like Luiglin, above, I'd happily do them weekly.

Venusian Broon – The saying ‘Better late than never’ springs to mind, not because it fits, but because sometimes too late is too late.

Not really impatient, just that sometimes you go with the idea that just forms immediately. I could have held it back but maybe all it would have done is buzz about the brain annoying me all month...probably.

As for Q2, always got lots to do. I'm not totally pleased to now have to wait weeks, but, there you go, sometimes you get an idea quickly, sometimes it's a struggle.

@Perpetual Man - After catching you out with my title last time, I did have another title for this one which I first used...which looking at what you've written, might have caught you out again :). My Psi-/spidey senses are now working fine it seems.

I sit on stories like I sit on bonfires... briefly with a great deal of anxiety. ;)

Moonbat - I probably fall into your last category. Once it's posted I can't mess around with it anymore and can concentrate on other writing. :)

Hmmm... I didn't have any ideas last month because I'm so fantasy/sci-fi-ally clueless but I'm going to force something this month, I'll oath! ;)

I promise Ph that if I ever win this, I will insert Horror into the list of genres. :)

Remedy – A flair for the dramatic and being the best there is at what you do can sometimes work against you, a temporal suicide but it takes the bets to kill the best… paradoxically.

What kind of idiot joins an online forum for Fantasy/Sci-fi writers and aficionados and then moans about it? ;) It's all yous lots fault for being so affable and community-ish!

On a more serious note, I would say I don't struggle with genres so much as openness of genre; I love the ones that are really obscure and find them easier to write - if not get votes for. So feel free to choose a genre like Agripunk :D

Agripunk hey...well there it goes..Phyre is off my vote list

unless he changes that to entomopunk, or precognitive renaissance revival

Punkpunk... with steam powered safety pins.

With that I'll stop before the ghost of Graham Chapman appears bewailing too much silliness.

I'm in, sorry everyone! :) And apologies to Remedy...I read the other (very good) stories only after posting mine...I see you've also used the words 'A Rival'. I didn't mean to duplicate your line!

Mine's not a good story, but at least I've kept my streak of entering alive. I have a busy month ahead, and just wanted to make sure I got in. Good writing, everyone! CC

"He who hesitates is lost". I had a nice little timey-wimey idea bouncing around, then took a look at the stories and there was telford with an entry involving temporal displacement. Ah well, my original story probably was better off in the dustbin, anyway.

I try to avoid similarities to already posted entries as much as is humanly possible, I guess that's an advantage of getting your story done early.

Great theme! I've already wrote a story, but I'm gonna try and wait a while before posting. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with.

i always say to myself I'm going to sit on my story and let it percolate, but never seem to follow through for any length of time. I see others posting, and I just can't wait to join the party. :) Great stories all around so far.

'I'm here,' says Bowler1, blasting RAY GUNS in all directions and causing a stampede. 'I've arrived...!'

A good theme and a fine follow on from the previous month. I have some ideas but they're not behaving as yet, but I'll get there. I'm off down the shooting range, always a cure for my writers block - I literally blast it away.
