The Dark is rising

It turns out that Walden Media, the same people who are doing the Narnia films, has acquired the rights to The Dark is Rising sequence.

I guess we'll get some idea of how well that's likely to turn out by how well (or badly) they bring The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to the screen.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe looks like it will be pretty true to the book. The woman who plays the witch looks perfectfor the role, and the kids playing the kids, I think look good for their parts. That means that there is hope for the Dark is Rising movie(s). I do think that they will do a good job, as long as they have competent writers and competent casting directors.

Really didn't enjoy King Arthur, all those cheesy over-the-shoulder shots nigh-on drove me to suicide via the medium of heavier smoking. Not good! Not good at all. The only bit that even brought a smile to my face was Ray Winstone asking his kid if he had been fighting, and winning.

I, perhaps luckily, own a set of The Dark is Rising series. I read them every once in a while and they don't really date. There is a similar one off book (or it might be a series by now) by an australian author that would appeal to those who enjoyed this series but I can't remember the title and I've just moved cities so I can't get it out to see. what i can tell you is it was by a woman and it was set in sydney with two kids holidaying there at their aunts. Ohh - I remember,:) it is "the Lost Kingdom of Lantia", I think it was published about 1995.

I've seen the King Arthur movie and I didn't like it one bit. I am excited about the Narnia movie though, the queen is played by the woman who played Gabriel in Constantine. Does anyone remember the Narnia series on tv? That was quite good.
