DISCUSSION -- July 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Luiglin, one of these days I'm going to want to see a commemorative 'Dark Lord' post with ALL of your stories together. They're always so much fun! :)

Cheers Juliana. Maybe a Christmas cracker of a post to give everyone a good groan at the puns.

Well I'm in, incredibly early for me. I'm on vacation and since my wife mostly likes to sit and relax, I thought I'd get a jump on it so that I could read everyone else's deception as they come in.

Parson, I had no idea you were a Webber fan. Nice take on the theme.

Good one, telford! I liked yours too, Parson! It's been a great start to the challenge! CC

I'm in, despite all my resolutions about writing out my various story ideas, revising them, then submitting my number 1 choice. It's story number 13 , too -- is that bad luck for a story about folk-lore? Or am I calling down the God of Fortune to support me?

I've got something done but much to my surprise I've got some words to play around with, so I'm going to sit on it for a bit...

14 entries and its the second of the month. Wow you guys move fast!

Ashleyne. B. Watts -- One of the most common forms of deception is the attempt to present ourselves as something other than what we really are, particularly to those we care about. As we become closer, we may choose to remove our masks.

Michael Coorlim -- Sometimes what appears to be an act of affection is really an act of selfishness. In such cases, we deceive ourselves as much as others.

farntfar -- Sometimes the key to successful deceit is to conceal information from the opponent. The simpler the hidden datum, the more effective.

Luiglin -- Deception is all very well as a part of one's strategy. But one had best be prepared to back it up with direct action at the right time and place.

Cat's Cradle -- Propaganda is the art of deception on a grand scale, intended to persuade the many. We must always question the motivations of those who wish to change our minds.

Juliana -- All is fair in love and war, they say. But if we justify deception in these vital matters, we must be prepared to face it ourselves.

Bowler1 -- Deception can be the result of following the letter of the law. In such cases, the spirit of the law is the true victim.

willwallace -- Often deceit is practiced by omitting the whole truth. Whether this is an act of cruelty or kindness depends on one's point of view.

Parson -- When we are not sure of the outcome of our actions, deception can be called bluffing. If luck is with us, deceit may become truth.

BigJ -- There are occasions when deception is an act of mercy. We must always be careful to make sure our little white lies do not lose their purity.

telford -- When two practice the art of deception, the results can be devastating. This is because each will attempt to outwit the other, raising the stakes in a vicious cycle.

Hex -- Sometimes the best way to deceive an enemy is to hide in plain sight. This requires cunning and perfect timing.

TitaniumTi -- In the game of love, deceit may seem a harmless ploy. In reality, the results may be terrible for all involved.

Venusian Broon -- Often we deceive ourselves by making unwarranted assumptions. The truth may take us by surprise.

I know what the word deception means but I often look up the subject in online dictionaries to help spur some inspiration. I looked up deception and they all say - the act of deceiving someone - which isn't much use, so I looked up deceive and it says 'to cause to believe what is not true'
So I thought that the best story would be one that deceives my reader, but to other option is to have a character that deceives another character.
Then I realised that we often deceive our readers only to reveal the truth in the last line, someone did it really well last month with a planetary invasion but the POV was a Martian and the Earthlings were invading, I assumed the POV was a human until the last line.
Then I thought what if I don't reveal my deception, isn't that proper deception, but then no one would know, and the deception going unnoticed might not be considered a deception.
So would any deception be moot if I don't reveal said deception? or would I have actually deceived you guys/gals and can reveal after voting (where I might not get any because people wouldn't see the deception in my story) hmm, it's all getting a bit complicated. Maybe I'll just make a hat joke, everyone loves a hat joke.

Or perhaps...deceive your readers by entering a deception challenge, and your deception is that there is no deception...

Victoria Silverwolf: Being a stranger in a strange land is a perilous way to live. The fear and constant vigil will wear even synthetic nerves ragged, until a like minded ally appears.

Oh, and thanks for the review, Victoria.

Thanks for the wonderful review Victoria.

They always are my favourite part of challenges, now if you could just review my WIP chapter by chapter, I would get my writing done quicker! :D

I had a very productive 30min lunch break today, 2 75 worders and a chapter plan for a future WIP! To be fair i had half of this challenge idea anyway, i'd wanted to do this form last month, but didn't want to step on someone's toes, so saved it:)

Now im off to enjoy the others entries to see if I stepped on someone's toes anyway:cautious:
