Writing short stories - advice please

I'm not sure how much help these will be, but some while ago Hex asked about short story structure and there are some general ideas and thoughts in the thread, and in this even older critiques thread there are a couple of comments about the short story form.
A treasure trove! Thank you.
Welcome, TK Greenleaf. This is a great forum for readers and writers. I look forward to reading samples of your writing here.
I looked at a sample of Duo on Amazon, liked it, and bought the book.

I'm making poor progress on my novel-length WIPs, so I've decided to write some short stories.a great feature

Can you suggest some good short story anthologies, in the science fiction, fantasy or other popular fiction genres? Also, I would be grateful for any advice about the craft of writing short stories.

Ti

I strongly suggest you Google "BEWILDERING STORIES." Their back issues make an excellent anthology.

Also, this online magazine has been extremely helpful to me and many other writers,

When they reject one of your stories (and they have rejected many of mine), they provide you with helpful suggestions concerning corrections needed in the story.. I have found that by following their advice, one of the next magazines you submit said story to will accept it. This has happened to me many times.

In addition, BEWILDERING STORIES has "help articles" for writers instructing such in writing short stories.

Also, if BEWILDERING STORIES publishes one of your stories, they keep it in their archives. This is a great asset for you if someone bugs you about wanting to read something you've published. This is an excellent feature, for when you mention BEWILDERING STORIES in your cover letter publishing credits to other magazines, they can check up on the credit. I've been told by a slush reader that many beginning writers lie about their publishing credits, often citing magazines that have folded.

Good luck with your writing!

NAMASTE

Thank you, Chuck. Following your suggestion, I've had a quick look at their website, and read interviews with their editors on the Six Questions For and Writers and Authors websites.

I've also read three short stories on their site, including your Back to the Garden. They set a high standard.
