Letting Go
“You should definitely climb the tree,” grinned Elf, eyes shimmering bright.
Dwarf harrumphed and leaned on his axe. “Trees aren’t for climbing. You’re better off on good old Terracotta if you ask me.”
Mike weighed up the decision. He slipped off his school rucksack and got a foothold on one of the gnarled roots, when a voice spoke behind him, not one he recognised.
“Why are you climbing that tree?”
He spun around and gulped. A girl. His tummy fluttered. What should he do? He listened hard for Elf and Dwarf’s advice.
But he couldn’t hear them any more.
