Wanted! SFF book recommendations for a 6 year old.

and lots of Roald Dahl.
Some selected Roald Dahl, maybe too only when older. Not at Six. A lot of it is plain nasty sugared with humour or deliberately anti parent or Authority figure.

Which Witch by Eva Ibbotson
Not read that. I'll look out for it. I just read a different Eva Ibbotson which was excellent, but too old for six.

Oh, the Moomins are fantastic! I adored them as a kid, and still do. :D For some reason I didn't think of them as SFF. I suppose if the Moomins are SFF, I have a LOT of books to recommend!

I never thought of them as SFF but I suppose they are magical creatures!

Of course! She likes the sound of 'Mr Gum and The Goblins' and the macabre Edward Gorey books... particularly 'The Evil Garden.' and his Alphabet book where children meet their demise!!! She has created a wish list to get through and they are at the top.

She is currently preparing to make her dancing debut at Disneyland Paris  so her Mum's insistence on strange books is currently on hold. :p

I have memories of loving the Sinbad stories around that age, no idea what the current kids versions are though.

Europeans were not very politically correct in 1821.
I think it was just "bundling" more of the similar rather than any lack of Political correctness. Lady Guest did it too with Welsh Legends. Even her title was a bit of an error.

It's on Gutenberg, and worth reading, but it would be a very precocious 6yo that would appreciate them. Maybe a 8 to 10 Yo might, but some of the content isn't child friendly.
