Discussion thread -- September 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

No-no-no, Tim...your reviews CAN'T be better than the story!! :)

Thanks for the nice review!! CC

ps--snazzy new photo there, Tim!
- It is still strange being referred to as Tim, I do sort of miss Perp...

Ah, but your story made sense... :D

My pleasure.

And thank you, I think. (It is slightly more up to date)

Ashleyne – In order to heal that which is broken we must first accept the cure we have created. In renouncing the miniscule heroes they follow a path of pure logic to the best possible conclusion: the terminal one.

Luiglin – Stepping beyond the mundane the choice is offered to the Profane, who finds a third option. Refuse either, tell them to get lost and get on with the business of ruling the… wait one moment, was that a glitch?

OH. :(

I didn't realise we would be revisiting the theme of Redemption. Sorry to those chronners who have been doing this for 3+ years and may feel like they are repeating themselves. I must strive to win another 75 and come up with an original theme thereby redeeming myself #seewhatididthere #thisisnotmyentry

Oh, don't worry about it in the least! We've had repeats before, and it's nice to see a favorite one come back after a couple of years. It's totally different, anyway, to do Redemption as Cyberpunk instead of ...whatever it was before. If it was a repeat of both theme and genre at the same time, we would probably ask to change one or the other -- but it creates a totally new challenge when it's combined with something new.

Most of us can't even remember what we wrote last month, much less what we (and far less what anyone else) wrote two years ago. Trust me, I had to look at the old thread to see what I wrote for the last Cyberpunk, and I have no clue what I wrote for the last Redemption. Our brains are in totally different places after all this time, and it's all new again.

You're fine. :)

Cascade... win it and then choose the theme of Repetition ;)

Item: Cat's Cradle: In this heartfelt tale of love and sacrifice the author creates characters who may not be "real" in the sense we are used to, but who come to life vividly and with whom we can empathize.

Item: Ashleyne. B. Watts: This fable of good intentions and the road that they pave offers a powerful portrait of humanity's endless struggle to overcome its own evils.

Item: Luiglin: With wit and good humor this amusing story winks at the pretensions of certain aspects of modern popular culture and brings them down to a more realistic level.

Item: Maieius: In this moving soliloquy, the doomed narrator forces the reader to come to grips with difficult questions of identity and the nature of self-awareness.

Item: Robert Mackay: This gentle and poetic tale offers an ironic look at those things which distract use from the world which surrounds us.

Item: Travis Woodward: This truly frightening look at an all-too-possible threat reminds us that technology must be guided by wisdom and caution.

As has already been said, there's certainly no issue with a repeated theme or genre (especially a theme that had previously been chosen by the Chron's most dashing and handsome moderator). Just as reference, though, should anyone find themselves on the winner's podium and wanting to check previous challenge themes and genres, there is a handy post collating them all at the start of the honour roll: https://www.sffchronicles.com/threads/529527/.

Which reminds me, said thread wants updating...

No problem. Of course. I think our comments are just a symptom of humankind's love and capacity for pattern recognition...and perhaps, just perhaps a bit of our love for whingeing.

Anyway, though it definitely would have been easier if you had used the same genre as last time, I have nevertheless gone through the arduous hard work of writing a new set of 75 words. Hell's Teeth! 75 words!! It took me half a short train trip.

I love exploring all these sub-genres. I've never done cyberpunk before and I was bombarded with ideas! :)

Oh well. That's wonderful. I've just realised I've written the wrong genre.

I suppose there's always next month. :)

(Shhh--keep it quiet, farntfar! I can see redemption there, in the last line. :))
