Haiku Challenge! Discussion Thread

I tweaked the name of the poll thread, DG, to make it clearer which is the poll, and I locked the thread so no one gets confused and posts on it, messing up your lovely poll :)

All of the haikus were very good and unique. Lots of variety on the theme. My personal favorites were Mr Orange, Jo Zebedee, LittleStar, The Judge, Cat's Cradle, Victoria Silverwolf, TitaniumTi. Also cheers to Glen for the most uplifting haiku and to HazelRah for the sweetest haiku. My vote went to Victoria for its evocative imagery.

I thought all of the entries were great - there was such a mix of interpretations, the happy, the sad, the whimsical, and the funny. I enjoyed reading all of them, and deciding upon a favourite was incredibly difficult; I thought they all offered something unique.

But I had to vote for one, and as close as it was... I chose The Judge's entry.

It was fun as well. So, thanks @DG Jones for suggesting and organising this. It was a great idea:)

There are a few great ones that captured what haiku are about for me.

TJ
CC
Brian
Victoria

In the end i was drawn by Victoria's excellent imagery (as I so often am) but any could have easily swayed my vote.

Good work, everyone, for a first haiku challenge :)

Well done everyone, I'm pleased that this went down so well.

My favourite four were:

Jo Zeb's kitchen sink sentiments, which I only think should be extended to include nurseries!
Victoria's gossamer-fine imagery
Brian Turner's bleaker, blasted imagery
Glen's typically irreverent Aussie take. Mmm, frosty cold ones.

In the end I decided to give my vote to Brian, for his hintery, wintery, Scottish landscape.

Hex and Jo were neck a neck when a dark horse over took them from behind.

Fun challange, interesting to see what everyone's emotional take was on my second greatest foe. :)

I went for Jo as either schools should be banned in winter or alternatively all kids should have to board... sort of like a scholastic version of hibernation.

What a fun challenge! Well done, everyone! :)

It all came down to these four for me:

TJ, Victoria, johnnyjet, HazelRah.
Then - as my wife and I have four cats - it came down to the kitty poems. It was very close, but TJ gets the vote. Best of luck to the contenders, CC
