What Happens to Your Books or Other Collectible Things When You Die?

Here's a horrible, horrible story told to me years ago by one of my book dealers.
A fellow dealer had got wind of a large SF book and magazine collection now for sale because the owner had recently passed away.
He went to the house where the owners wife and mother-in-law lived.
There was an excellent collection of books which he bought on the spot.
However there were no magazines to be seen, when he asked about them he was told yes there was a very large collection dating back to the 30s.
Well where are they he asked, oh said the wife they were taking up a lot of space so we burnt them.
After all, she said they were only old magazines, it isn't as if there worth anything.
Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a bad idea.
I don't know what to do with my large book & magazine collection when the time comes.
Liverpool University library has a large SF book & mag collection, might leave them there.
But my non-SF books & mags I might have them auctioned and give the money Battersea Dogs & Cats Home or the Blue Cross?

I am not a collector or hoarder, I tend to sort stuff out every now and then and they are either sold or go to the charity shop. It's just stuff, not that important. Memories are important, not processions. My girls or hubby will do what ever they wish with them when I go.
