DISCUSSION -- January 2016 300-word Writing Challenge (#20)

Thanks for the mention, SL. Much appreciated. Yeah, I know, cutting out great stories is soooooo hard.

As ever the hardest bit is voting: My shortlist has become, and stayed, much too long, and some of those I cut I really felt I was being a bit arbitrary. Still, here it is, votes are *rred:

Starbeast

Thank you StilLearning for the Short Listing. You made my morning.

After the voting is over, I'm looking forward to hear what people will have to say about their stories. Such a great bundle of imaginative tales.

Firstly, thanks to those who have mentioned my story. On to my shortlist-

Mad Alice-Blood Rain
Mr Orange- Ashes to Ashes
Victoria Silverwolf- Stranger on the Beach

All three of these competed mightily with the ones I finally decided to vote for.

StilLearning-CSI Y'ha-nthle-the beginning. Always love a Lovecraftian-inspired tale.
Starbeast-Jaws:Chum Edition. Another story adding to an established mythos, well done.
Ashleyne.B.Watts. This one was just nutty enough to make me chuckle.

Well bless my soul, I've got a vote. Thank you Willwallace, you shock me to the core tonight!!! Yippy-ky-yo-tee!!!
And a big, "you're welcome", from me, for mentioning you pal. (y)

the first time i read one of your stories i thought you must have been high. now i'm beginning to think there's literary genius in there...

HA hah hah ha ha ha. :ROFLMAO: Thank you Mr Orange, I regard that as a very huge complement. I used to hear that a lot when I was in my twenties.

I feel so good right now, I want to blast some alternative music.

you're welcome SB

it's getting tight at the top - are we seeing a final surge from Jo that might get her in front? or will Denise prevail and take the title? or, is there a dark horse waiting in the wings to surprise everyone with a come-from-behind spectacular victory?

find out tonight!

I've been in deadly serious 4th draft re-write for most of this month (finished last night: does curtsey and takes the small scattering of applause...)

So I've come to the stories pretty late. But here are the votes of the Venusian jury:

'Oooooh! prettier than a sunbathing Thotheen' list:
Droflet, Denise Tanaka, Starbeast, Alex Darion, Johnnyjet, HazelRah, Ursa Major

'I'd race through the metallic thundersnow of Maat Mons to read these' list:
Juliana, DG Jones

'Wait, didn't we have five votes???' list:
Mosaix, The Judge

'I'd give the Mekon copies of these' list (and votes):
Mr Orange, reiver33, Glen.

In all the times I've participated in this exercise, I've never got more than 1 or 2 votes. Whatever the final count shakes out to be, I am already feeling the warm fuzzies. Like Mr. Miyagi sitting on the beach, I'm just totally chillin' dude.

Ha! The first time I was in the frontrunners I was quivering. :)

Anyhow. Popcorn?

(In answer to @Mr Orange it's the lovely judgely one I'll be keeping an eye on. She has quite a history of sprint finishes.)

While you're all sitting on the edge of your seats, maniacally pressing "Refresh" ... why not consider entering this month's 100 Word Anonymous Challenge?

There are still two days left to get your entries in to me (via Start Conversation), and it's just like the 75- and 300- worders only with added CLANDESTINE SKULDUGGERY. Which is surely a selling point!

Wow, it's a close one! I will mention though that I still think I might pull this one out, before it's over! :)
Actually, best of luck to our contenders, CC
