The fate of Jon Snow is revealed; Daenerys meets a strong man; Cersei sees her daughter again.

After all this time there's nothing to learn. Nothing expect that the Red Woman isn't the woman she appears to everyone else. In fact, when she takes off the magical amulet Melisandra turns out to be a very old woman. Someone could even claim she look like a witch. A pretty one. No wartzes or poxes. No tatoos, just a face that's very old and the look in her eyes is revealing quite a bit.

It makes me think Melisandra is in fact a witch, and if you take that step a bit further, she probably was around last time when Winter blew over the wall and made Westeros shiver again. There's no warmth, no heart left in the North, only hushed glances that tells the tale: "North will never forget." In our own world, things are pretty much same way. And death is no stranger.

With the power that Melisandra posses she could probably try to raise Jon Snow from the dead, but I don't think she will. And it's only matter of time before he probably turns to a white walker to travel besides the Night's King when the dead march towards the South.

If the Night Watch would have saved him, Jon could have done something to stop him. Instead Alliser Thorne is in trouble. He has no way of surviving the night, nobody to turn to ask for help. Lannister's are too far away to do anything, and between them and the Wall are only Bolton's army. I don't doubt that they took casualties and if those two armies would clash before Night's King, the King of Dead would probably advance into Red Keep to sit on the Iron Throne.

I don't know if people have speculated this happening, but that's the way I see GoT steering towards.

In the other continent, beyond the Narrow Sea, things aren't much different. I don't even know what to say other than that things look quite dire to all of them. Maybe they kill all masters and disintegrate into a chaos in which heart is the Queen of Dragon's. I believe she's the one who could oppose Night's King rule over at the other side, if she doesn't get killed.

What did you thought about it?

Where the heck did Dany's dragon bugger off to after he deposited her into the sweaty embrace of the Dothraki? Does she only get one rescue from that ungrateful whelp? Seriously.

I think the episode was a great setup for the season to come - letting us all know that, just like Jon Snow, we now "know nothing," even those of us who have read all the books. We're venturing into very fun unknown territory here.

I disagree with some stuff said in the above. I actually feel Davos stuck in room with ghost and Jon's dead body and Melisandre sudden decision to take of her ruby and release the glamour is basically a setup for Jon Snow his resurrection. I'm biased in that I want Jon Snow to live but I really feel that way (that it's a setup for him to live). I mean why show Jon's Snow body being hauled to a secure room, why show that ghost is still safe and alive, why remind people that melisandre saw Jon in the battle for winterfell, why send for aid from Tormund when there's no one and therefore no real cause left to save (unless Davos becomes an even bigger hero), why show Melisandre at the end like that (to me it seemed like she was either giving up, or showing determination to do something after having made up her mind), why name the episode like that of not for Jon and Melisandre role in him coming back to life.

@Melisandre, apparantly some people already speculated before the show she was indeed an old woman using glamour to her advantage. I actually didn't see that coming, I felt like her ruby had special powers, but I didn't think Mel itself was that old. That said, it means that ruby is even more powerful than i believed, so if she intends to storage and fully harness it's power by releasing her own glamour to save Jon it could work.

Not too mention Jon and the north will now possible have a freed Sansa to rally behind. or Sansa is there to take over Jon torch...

There are a bunch of things i understood needed to be done, and with that i'm referring to the stuff in Dorne, but I feel it goes against what Dorne was supposedly all about, aka family. Because you want vengeance for your family, you start by killing your own family... . I get the weakness angle but still. I also found it interesting that this leaves Dorne without any legit martells in the show. Only the bastards are alive.

Meereen seemed so tiny when Tyrion and Varys took their stroll..., budget costs i guess.

As for Dany, seems part of untying her knot is going to the capital of the dothraki.

Even though frustratingly little happens overall, a few bits were quickly tied up from last series and I agree, a great set up of what is to come; all out war from pretty much every angle by the looks of it.
I think Mel taking off her ruby and reverting to her true form shows her losing her faith. Clearly Davos needs to help her get back on track. I think Mel will resurrect Jon Snow (maybe by sacrificing herself in the process) - why else have kit back just to play a corpse?

Yeah this bit seemed a bit clunky to me; if this was their intention all along, why not have done it sooner? (I know, I know - The Book) having Jamie as a prisoner would have been a better time - they could have even made it look like he'd done it, thereby generating even more support for action against the lannisters

I had a nice conversation with a colleague the other day about what the forthcoming season would bring. They something interesting that got my mind working. Jon Snow is dead but Jon will return as Jon Stark.

As for the episode. I thought it was a strong opening. The weakest part was again the Dany storyline, although I loved the interplay between Kal Morro and his Bloodriders about what are the best things in life.

It was also good to see that they were those still loyal to Jon and willing to fight over his body.

I think the scene with Brienne swearing her allegiance to Sansa could be a bit of foreshadowing about who will rule the North at the end. It might just be a Lady instead of a Lord.

The Dorne scenes felt wrong. Prince Doran of the books and tv show are worlds apart.

I raise my hands up on Dorne. I don't know what's going on there and I don't think we should be worried. They slaughtered their men, their rulers and so on. So why would they be interested on anything that's above them in Lannister's land.

I think they're interested in the Lannister lands to settle the rape and murder of their own people.

The guards stood idle and watched their ruler killed, they're going to follow the sand snakes. And they're still eager for vengeance

no, not Jon Snow.... Jon Targaryen

Nice opening episode, lots of catch up with the various parties. Agree the Dorne storyline has been butchered to death, so much for Areo, looked they read the fan feedback on last season and thought "sod it, let's just cut those guys out". Loved the Night's Watch stuff, although I took it that Melissandre had given up (or having a crisis of conscience), she may see the light once Tormund and crew arrive.

Oh, and Davos for the Iron Throne!

As a season opener I was disappointed. I felt like they weren't trying so much as they have previously - maybe because they know they have their audience now no matter what as the next book isn't out and the story is diverging from it anyway. It felt more wrap up and set up than new season, which left me feeling like it was the last episode of last season and not the first of this.

Some good bits, and a nice bit of swordfighting. Not enough wolves. Though in my mind there are never enough wolves. What's the guess on when we get to see Bran again?

Melli wasn't such a big surprise, Dany's bit was amusing, just doesn't seem to be as all in as previously, I found myself distracted quite a few times (though that may have been because I wasn't supposed to be watching it!) so am hoping it will be improving.

Whaaat? Jon's body, Melisandre and Ghost, all cooped up together, and nothing magical happens? Unless you count Mel's bedtime transformation into a somewhat more mature woman than previously suspected, that is.

Maybe there is some sort of symbolism in that or a hint at what might be coming. Maybe not.

Maybe removing her magical necklace is merely Mel's nightly routine -- no different than normal women removing their makeup before retiring. Maybe remaining youthful keeps her awake at night. :D

Anyone else thinks the bloodstain in the snow under jon's body looks like a dragon's wings? Davos had a good look at it... Not convinced myself

Grr sorry, on my phone can't quite seem to manage to stick the picture in ...
