Discussion Thread -- May 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Thanx for the mentions! Cheered me up to be mentioned, and so early!

I'll get to voting later today. :)

Yay, thanks Victoria for my first vote received. Feeling inspired now! I guess I better go do some writing or sketching.

Starbeast- "...and they will beat their swords into plowshares, their aircraft carriers into floating farm communes...etc." Can you imagine a world without competition, let alone strife? I can't come close to fathoming it, only God can. The Bible remains the best Sci-Fi epic ever written!

Ursa Major- At some point in life we cross that divide from preferring stress to preferring boredom. I'm guessing it's right around the age one contends with their battle between heartlessness, mindlessness, liberalism and conservatism.

Cory Swanson- Coincidence that he lost his parents at a young age and has trouble with authority and rash decision making???

Moonbat- It's amazing how one moment can change a life forever. Imagine taking your eyes off the road for an instant to glance at a text that just came in. We take the fabric of space time for granted but really, it's so very fragile.

The Judge- Wisdom is wasted on the old and youth is wasted on the young. The young here were the wisest of all, until a few moments earlier.

In Honor of Copa America Centenario

GroupC: (Group od Death)
Mosaix-
Funny and clever (unlike Glen)
Sinister42 - Also Close to home.
Robert Mackay- Abstract concepts personified.
Johnny Appleseed- Silly surRealism.

Group D:
Ursa Major-
Stress or Boredom.
Bob Senior- Home too close.
Parson- Frustratingly real.
The Judge- Careful what you wish for.

All Group stage matches will be concluded int he next 36 hours, top 2 advance to knockout rounds.

Wow, this was a tough one to judge. The entries are remarkably varied. With that in mind, allow me to create a few special awards, in lieu of a short list. In order of appearance:

Best science fiction: "The Next Time I Open My Eyes" by sinister42.

Many thanks!

I have no idea what's happening here, but I'm excited to be included! :)

So nice to be mentioned!

Thanks to @Cathbad and @Heijan Xavier@sinister42

(I'm curious to see how the Copa America Centenario goes. As for the U.S. unless they are in the "group of death" they should make the knock out stage. But that is possible they could be in such a group with Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina all ranked above them.)

Match 3: Perpetual Man (PRP) 2-2 Chrispenycate (CPC)
Match 4: Stilllearning (STL) 0-1 Mr. Orange (MRO)

Group B Standings:
Pts. W D L GD
MRO 3 1 0 0 +1
PRP 1 0 1 0 0
CPC 1 0 1 0 0
STL 0 0 0 1 -1

For those of you not into soccer-football, the next 19 posts of mine may be annoying. If the majority wants me to just get it over with I will. It's quite interesting looking at two pieces side by side and metaphorically "pitting them" against one another though.

As for the U.S. unless they are in the "group of death" they should make the knock out stage.

They are.

Thanks to Droflet and HazelRah for votes, which always make my day.

It was hard going to get a short list and I had to prune my short list to make it short. So mentions to VB (a regular for me), Cascade, Chrispy (who managed to get the flow going this month), Perp (and vote, the last line did it for me), Mosaix, TDZ and HazelRah. For such an unusual theme this month the range of ideas was really impressive. I've enjoyed keeping tabs on what was posted this month. Laters everyone.

Those unfamiliar with football may not know how to read some of Heijan Xavier's posts.
Check out this...:
James Alexander Gordon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

...especially, "he used his intonation, when pronouncing the names of the clubs, to indicate whether a match had ended in a home win, away win or draw."

..and read accordingly.

If that doesn't help then try to sound a little more upbeat for the higher score, and a little more downbeat for the losing score. Middle level for both scores in a draw.

Whew. Some of those categories may have not had many competitors, but all were worthy of mention. I call 'em as I see 'em.

Choosing one to vote for was extremely difficult. I'm going to go for "A Thousand Moments of Self-Loathing Clarity" by Heijan Xavier, which defied categorization.

I thought I'd be a shoe in for best orc romance. Very, very disappointed.
