June 2016 100 Word Anonymous Challenge - Discussion Thread

Bereft of the glory of having authors one considers "better" assumed to have written your own addition...
Bereft of the delight of having your voice recognized by your peers...
Bereft of the opportunity to enter THIS annonchallege...

Bereft of a conversation with Wruter...

*shakes head sadly*
it's too much.

@hopewrites I didn't know you cared! I will of course be available to provide post-challenge therapy for those such as yourself, no doubt left traumatized by the cruel withdrawal from my sweet embrace to face what must now seem a darker future. Do not be afraid! For I shall heal you.

...unless you were being sarcastic, in which case you will receive side eye.

Okay, okay, I know I'm often sarcastic too but I do it with LOVE.

PS - I think your writing has bags of charm and I'm glad you're here. And that's not sarcastic.

And on that note another story has just come in!

The Fantastic Four: The Child of Doom - it... well... it... You know what, words fail me. It is the greatest story ever. A work of pure unadulterated genius which made me giggle helplessly. Read it and weep, knowing you shall never live to scale such heights of literary brilliance. Truly, there is god.

Hmmm... methinks deciding who wrote this one won't be too terribly hard...

;)
You are sooooo wrong Cathbad. Seriously, I could never even dream of being able to write something so wild and so unconstrained by mortal convention as The Fantastic Four: The Child of Doom.

Hey, maybe you wrote it. At this stage NOBODY KNOWS. Except me. The world will simply have to wait to find out who unleashed this staggering, monumental... Okay I'm going to stop now.

I liked it. Honestly.

It's another anonymous entry! How unusual!

A Text Message From The Future - epistolary message fiction with a heartbreaking payoff.

My internet connection is a bit ropey here but I've got a good idea and hope to get an entry in before this thing closes.

And one last entry makes it in!

It Was a Long Way - a melancholy journey of inevitable change.

The poll will be up soon! Look busy!

As the prophecy foretold, the time of voting is at hand! Tremble ye mortals for the poll is open, yea, even unto the next few days.

As of this writing the SFF Chrons forum has 31,010 members. 16 of you entered this challenge. Now, I'm not going to say I'm not disappointed that we didn't get the full 31,010 entries. But each of you who did enter may consider thyself anointed with the sacred oils.

*anoints everyone who entered with the sacred oils*

Okay, here is a handy reminder of the stories:

My Fairy Carers - an idiosyncratic fairy story.
Dead or Alive - a dark fantasy of reincarnation.
New Skin For Old - a Dickian body-swap encounter.
Trust Me, I'm a Doctor - a chilling monster horror.
Birthday - Asimovian robotics in a dystopian setting.
The Thief of Time - a unique kind of vampirism.
Childhood - a personal account of tragedy.
Stranded - Douglas Adams-style darkly comic science fiction.
The Siren Call of Time - a fresh perspective on a classic character.
Tea - a poignant domestic portrait of a miracle drug.
New World Order - a singular alien invasion captured in authentic dialogue.
Nation of Youth - enigmatic strokes paint a picture of a dissonant world.
Duty - a low fantasy of brutal revenge and redemption.
The Fantastic Four: The Child of Doom - a work of pure unadulterated genius which made me giggle helplessly.
A Text Message From The Future - epistolary message fiction with a heartbreaking payoff.
It Was a Long Way - a melancholy journey of inevitable change.

As you can see, no two of these stories are alike and all are deserving of consideration IMNSHO. Woe unto thee who did not enter!

You will note, brothers and sisters of the holy order, that despite his vow earlier in the thread DG Jones did not in fact enter. We shall devise a suitable punishment for him later. Probably involving whips.

So, can you guess who wrote which story?

ratsy - forget all that Brexit nonsense, this is the only vote that matters!

Oh, and please could a passing mod sticky the poll, thanks.
