Game of Thrones: 6.08 - No One

..
  • Dany appears out of nowhere, and nothing else happens (what was the point)?..
  • Because for some reason that is how the show is written. If there is a reason for Dany to appear somewhere or do anything of any sort of significance, particularly if it includes dragons then that is the end of the episode. Clearly directed towards her being victorious at the end of the story, or at least for people to root for her. Though I'm not sure if they do as her story is dull at times.
The episode was another fairly dissapointing one and other than a few highlights the decline seems to be continuing since the start of a Feast of Crows. Surely the finish should be exciting but I think the Arya storyline shows that all the complicated theories are just overthinking the story. No Syrio, no character impersonating another, no magical healing, just a surprisingly tough girl getting some more training and escaping with her life back to Westeros.

The hound story is fun though so far it is not clear what is the importance of the Brotherhood and him. They don't have the numbers to kill off the fanatics in Kings Landing. But there must be some linking with other Lord of Light believers/supporters at some point.

It seems Marg doesn't have an influence over Tommen now? I mean, Loras will be on trial.

Hmm, not sure what to make of that...

Had some good bits.

I liked the hound's scenes. He is back to his swearing fighting best. And he's always seemed a bit cartoonish. Certainly an improvement after the awful Amish barn building last week

Thought Jaime had some really good scenes as well. I liked the siege up until the terrible off screen death of the blackfish.

And i liked the King's landing scenes too. Tommen is a sop, and the mountain ripped someone's head off.

And it had some bad bits.

Like all of the Mereen scenes. Tyrion has turned into a performing dwarf and is it just me or does anyone else find Dany's dramatic scenes quite, well, boring?

And the Arya Braavos conclusion was bad action movie awful. Until that nod and smile from Jaqen. Which was good.

I kind of get the feeling that now they are free of the books, the showrunners are trying to get rid of all the storylines they don't like and bring everything back to westeros. And they're making a bit of a mess of some of them.

This has been a season of re-appearances following long absences, so ... maybe? No idea, in truth.

Yes, definitely dull.
As for the storylines I would be surprised if they are massively different to what will be in Winds of Winter. It could be they have had to messily shorten some though.

Although the Dorne, Sansa and Brienne storylines are already markedly different from the books...

"I choose violence." Great line. :)

Dany - why didn't she just send her dragon (Drogon?) breathing fire over all those flammable ships? Or, at least, some of them? Perhaps enough to make them flee? Instead of simply landing on top of the pyramid, sending the dragon away, and facing the others?

Also, why does Tyrion keep killing time in scenes? Waste of talent. Hoping for all that side of the story to improve.

Found the whole situation over Riverrun to be poignant - but was hoping that Jaime would allow the Tullys to march north to help Sansa. Perhaps she still will?

Waif = Terminator! Seemed a clumsy way for Arya to resolve her storyline. And if Arya Stark's name is given to the Faceless God, then why on earth would Jaqen let her go?? Does he really respect Arya more than he values his core belief system and reason for being?

Clegane- joins the Brotherhood! Good showing, and fun argument over the prisoners.

A few niggles, but otherwise a better sense of pace in this series.

All the YES on this. I mean, I knew the minute those guys showed up, everyone would get slaughtered, but the range of emotion Sandor showed was just perfect. And then joining the Brotherhood, I literally let out a whoop!
