Easy to find inspiration, hard to get it on paper.
Read in a newspaper that Matt Smith might be returning as a re-regeneration.

I really hope this is true. He has been my favourite doctor so far.

Now that they've broken the rules of regeneration and "The Caretaker" proved that it is possible to revisit old faces, it's perfectly set up to return MS to a role he was born for.

I agree, he was a brilliant Doctor, almost as good as Peter Capaldi is terrible.

I've seen him in other things and he's ok. Not terrible. I blame the scripts mostly but still, he's pretty bad in this.

I like Capaldi's Doctor. He brings a weird mix of mania, gravitas, and crotchetiness to the role. I mean, "Shut up. Shut up. Shuttity-up." And "This room makes no sense! Look it's only got a bed in it!" and he's bloody genius at delivering all sorts of Moffetian quips and witticisms. There have been some stinker episodes that Capaldi has had to do, but some really damned good ones as well, especially last season.

That said, if we could somehow get a Two Doctors situation with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi riffing off one another - that would be a hoot and a half.

Speaking of nothing in particular, I just discovered that the 8th Doctor's audio adventures are available on Google Play Music, so I've been listening to those - good stuff! Makes me wish they'd had more of a chance to really explore Paul McGann's Doctor on TV. The 50th Anniversary special stuff was actually the first time I'd seen him in that role. I just watched the 1996 movie as well - not great, EXTREMELY '90s in its tone and visuals, a little bit silly, but I did really like McGann's Doctor.

But I digress. Which is my wont.

I like Peter Capaldi's doctor and I didn't like Matt Smith I just hated his companions. However, the stories and scripts for both have been dire. But I'm another vote for giving Paul McGann another chance - his doctor was what made the movie watchable.

Well, if we're going to start reprising Doctors, my first choice would obviously be David Tennant. :D But Matt Smith was my first Doctor, and I like him a lot, too. I would be interested to see what he might do with another incarnation -- because I'm sure they wouldn't bring him back just to do the same thing again. It would be a whole different Doctor character, with the same face. Or what's the point?

Still, I'd rather they didn't start on Disney remakes with the Doctors. There are plenty of talented actors in the world to draw from, so why reuse old ones?

I think my cat would make an excellent doctor. He appears out of nowhere and is only stumped by round doorknobs, the rest he can open himself. He also goes round in circles - cat flap, outside, round the house, in the sun room, through the kitchen, into utility room, to the cat flap.

Sonic claws. Meows for the galaxy and can turn the washing machine on.

My guess would be that some wet behind the ears media/marketing graduate of a junior executive at the Beeb said in a casting meeting 'Hey, Matt Smith was popular, why don't we just have him again?' And everyone else round the table sat open mouthed in silence staring at this fool. After this I'm guessing someone else who was in the meeting who happens to know a journalist personally said to aforementioned journalist 'You won't believe what this upstart said in the meeting the other day... ...and we were all, like, "Whaaaat!"'

Hence the news.

I really can't see this happening

I hope it doesn't. I think Matt Smith had far and away the best first episode ever. 11th hour was a brilliant introduction and he was so good it changed my mind about him. A friend of mine knew him and warned me he wasn't a nice guy but that episode sold me. Towards the end the scripts were getting bad. We need a new set of writers.

Re-regeneration? Wow, they really have run out of ideas. Instead of shuffling Doctors, maybe they need some new (and better) writers.

I like Peter Capaldi a lot. He is an improvement over Matt Smith who I never really got into. I just want better scripts and better companions. Heaven Sent was amazing.

Instead of reusing old Doctors, I want a ginger doctor. Or maybe they should cash out and afford him an upgrade.

I liked him as the Doctor but his story is done. They need to move on.

I was fortunate to meet Matt Smith.

A little theatre company in Manchester put on an interactive Dr Who show for kids. I took my niece on the last day. They used audio footage of Matt from the show to tell the kids what to do, then to everyone's surprise Matt opened a door held out his hand to 20 Northern kids and said "come with me." They then ran from the weeping angels with the real Doctor!

There was no publicity around it. The cast found out that day that Matt had heard about the show and wanted to come up to surprise the kids. He then posed for photos and autographed all the kids programmes, despite a car waiting for him with a manager tapping his foot and his then girlfriend Daisy Lowe waiting for him. He even had time to coo over my baby, who then grew up loving Matt Smith without knowing she had met him once!

This was a man who knew how important his role was to his fans, especially the kids. He came to Manchester for goodness sakes!!! It felt like we were in the presence of the Doctor!

My hormones may belong to David Tennant but my heart belongs to Matt. Bring back Matt Smith!

(Just for the record, I love Peter Capaldi too.)

Adored Matt Smith, though loved Tennant too. Helped he reminds me of my little brother! I am also the only person in the world who apparently though River Song was an amazing character and loved their storylines together.
