Returning Doctor

Yep. I liked River Song too - initially (I mean what's NOT to like?) her character added some zip and fun to the show every time she appeared (and she has a nice bum) but as the soap opera elements ground on and took over and adventure and exploration and fun was replaced by tedious navel gazing yadda yadda yadda she got sucked in too. That last Christmas Special (I think it was) with the two of them on their honeymoon (?) and singing towers or whatever. Sorry, I think that was the tipping point for me. Doctor Who has lost its way. Even Alex Kingston's sheer unmitigated Fwaar!ness couldn't keep me interested.

I have to disagree here.

While I hated most of that episode, I found the interactions between the Doctor and River to be the best part. The only redeeming parts of that episode.

Finally having a proper conclusion to the Doctor/River storyline, and it was a beautiful ending as well. I loved it.

Ah yes it was the first time I though capaldi might be OK after all, and I thought it rounded the storyline off brilliantly.

And the events of that episode were actually mentioned in her first (final) appearance in the library episode with David Tennant and Catherine Tate
