Claire Cook: Why I left traditional publishing

Success can be a sharp sword. We all want it, whether we fib or not. But writing is a journey that can take us in many directions. Traditional publishing is great if you want to work your back side off to convince a publisher that your story is the best in the world and to invest in it. But If you have lived your story for months or even years writing it, and you believe that self-publishing is the only way forward, then learn what you need to know. Authors are a shy bunch and reality can be ultra scary at times. But pluck up the courage and make a go of it. The worst case is, you will fail. But if you succeed - seeing your book in print will put a huge smile on your face.
