DISCUSSION -- October 2016 300-word Writing Challenge (#23)

Hard to imagine, but by the time the voting has ended for the challenge, there will be a newly-elected president in the US...hopefully things will go well there (an oblique reference to...well, something. :))

The new so-called "prez", will probably mark the beginning of the end for everyone on the planet. I've seen no improvements (looking back from 1980) here in "America-land" (where I live), just a LOT OF TALK. The men behind the puppet will try to destroy us all. Nothing but a bunch of soul-less monsters that always smile at everything, who give weak apologies for every freaking SERIOUS mistake they make.

So, how are you Cat's? The weather has been fine here, just a little damp. Nice to see you've posted your story.

Hey Starbeast! I'm from the US originally, and I also feel sad about the state of things in the States. Waiting now for my absentee ballot, so I can at least try to do my part to help.
I think your story is a real hoot, btw, Beastie! :)

Starbeast -- This rollicking comedy contrasts popular culture of the past with that of the present, not entirely to the advantage of the latter.

Droflet -- This cleverly structured tale of intermingled pasts, presents, and futures rewards careful reading to unravel its secrets.

Heijan Xavier -- This profound psychological portrait ponders the price conquerors may pay for seeming victories.

Erik B -- This bittersweet love story makes the reader wonder if there can every be true communication between persons drawn together by their differences.

Calliopenjo -- This thoughtful character study examines the way in which bitterness can turn against itself.

Cat's Cradle -- This pyrotechnic satire of modern times draws the reader in with its dazzling, playful style.

Cathbad -- This chillingly realistic horror story is sure to bring back memories of childhood fears and wonder.

Cory Swanson -- This surreal comedy of manners makes us look at ourselves in a new way.

Great picture.

I always struggle the most with the 300 word challenges but i thought I'd at least post an attempt this time. It became a 6000 worder when I was done with it then was cut to shreds and has come out as I expected devoid of the emotion and sentiment I was trying to get across in the first place.

So many good stories again this month. Once again I'm astounded by the ability of folks in here to express so much in so few words.

Great story Cat's. Thanks for the laugh. I didn't know what you meant until I read your story. Top Notch, sir.

I will say good luck to everyone. (y) It was a good picture I think.

When I first saw the photo, I thought, "Oh man. There are going to be some pretty wild stories written about this one." Tremendous drama, by the way, Calliopenjo.

Thank you very much for your wonderful review, Lady Silverwolf. Your tale is awesome. Oh my. Am I inadvertently reviewing, or am I making pleasant comments?

I highly agree with you, Ajid. There are a multitude of excellent authors here, like yourself. Yes, I really enjoyed your entry. Oh man. It looks like it's going to be another tough month of voting. Fortunately, we each get three votes. But three, doesn't seem to be enough, with the stories so far.

What on Earth will be posted next? NEXT :cautious:

Thanks, Beastie! I'm happy that makes sense now. ;) So many good stories coming in! Terrific ending on yours, Ajid. I sometimes wish we had 500 words for the challenge...but then I know I'd want 700...it is tough cutting bits you like! It's nice to see you entering challenges again. CC

I'm in. Couldn't resist this idea that popped in my head. Bloody nightmare to work it backwards though.

Wruter -- This realistic account of exploration in the near future reminds us that humanity will always take its superstitions with it, and that they may be of value.

Ajid -- This introspective vision of an epic voyage offers the insight that every choice comes with consequences, and that serenity comes from accepting the loss of the road not taken.

Luiglin -- This Rabelaisian comedy reminds us that not everything is what it appears to be.
