Do you write more than sci fi and fantasy?

I tend to think of myself as an SF writer, but so far my published works are two horror stories and one SFF, and a fantasy story coming out soon. And the book I'm most likely to finish is the first in a series of cozy mysteries. I just can't seem to make up my mind what I want to be when I grow up. :D

I'm curious besides science fiction and/or fantasy stories what other sorts of writing have you done or do you do?

SF and fantasy gives the writer much more freedom than any other genre. It's kind of difficult (or even impossible) to restrict yourself again after you had a taste of it. Although I have a plan of a "usual" novel about a man dying of cancer. Can't force myself to start writing it though - the subject is very hard, given my personal circumstances. Maybe later...

I prefer dark weird/urban horror when writing short stories.

I never understood the horror genre. Can someone be really scared by such texts? To me, characters in horror thrillers always looked like morons who lack the brain even for dialing 911...

As a genre horror is more to do with disturbing your equilibrium and tends to focus on the human condition.

Just as sci-if reflects current affairs, so does horror (consider the rush of stories in the 50s of mutations inspired by the fear of atomic power).

But most of all, horror's success at provoking fear depends on your own life experiences and moral compass, so is highly subjective to taste and life journey.
