I just entered this one -- still a few days left before it starts, if anyone is interested!
Apparently the entry fee ($55, or $50 if you post about it on FB or Twitter) is high, but it was doable for me, and I like the format and the challenge of it.
It goes in three rounds, with the top stories of each round advancing to the next round. They email you a genre, subject and character, and for the first round you have eight days to write a story up to 2500 words. Winners of that round then get (in March) three days to write a story up to 2000 words with a new genre, subject and character. Winners of that round (up to 80 max) then get (in May) 24 hours to write a story up to 1500 words with a new genre, subject and character. Top five of those win prizes from $250 to $3500. Feedback is provided for all stories, and there is a forum in which you can post for critiques as well.
Many if not most of the judges appear very literary, alas, but the possible genres are "Action/Adventure, Comedy, Crime Caper, Drama, Fairy Tale, Fantasy, Ghost Story, Historical Fiction, Horror, Mystery, Political Satire, Romance, Romantic Comedy, Sci-Fi, Spy, Suspense, Thriller, and Open Genre."
Anyone want to join me in the madness?
