NYC Midnight Short Story competition 2017

According to my calculations, even though there are 3000 (reportedly 3031) people in this contest, one only has to beat 126 of them to make the money.

First round = 30 in each heat, but top five advance, so that's 25 to beat.
Second round = ~31 in each heat, top five advance, so that's 26 more. (Extrapolating this from the fact that they say 80 max in the final round and 500 advance from the first round. Sixteen heats of ~31 advances 80.)
Third round = 80, top five pays, so that's 75 more. Voila, 126.

Piece of cake, right?

Well I'm actually writing one of the best things I think I've ever written, so I'm feeling pretty good. Of course, Trump's still the President, so who knows what the hell.

I'm ...uhh... writing. Still not clear on how what's in my head is going to get coherently onto paper, but it's in progress.

That sounds interesting, but that is a pretty high entry fee. Not doable for this starving writer here... It doesn't entirely seem fair to charge people to enter a contest, anyhow, although I can see them getting their funding that way to pay the winners. But I've generally been warned against that. To each their own, though!

I'm very much a kindred spirit re Yogs Law, but there are many positive aspects to this ( see DustyZebra's earlier posts).

That's
Great. that alone is worth the fee - ie if it grts you writing at a higher level. Me... Well struggling a bit, but should come together before the deadline.

How's it going, fellow midnighters? :)

I'm done, but have my story out with a few trusty comrades to make sure it's coherent.

Based on the way the thing opened, I'm recommending to myself and to others that we make sure to upload before the last minute. The site is bound to crash. Plus, the uploading format and everything sound a bit tricky, so I want to be sure I get everything right.

I finished my story on Sunday and I'm doing some editing tonight.

Oooh, look at you, all writing a story in a day and a half. :D

I was a day past the three-day mark that I'll need if I make the second round. Lord help me if it gets down to the 24-hour one. What was I thinking?

Wrote 1000 words today, so feeling a bit more relaxed bout the whole thing. Should finish it tomorrow, baring severe handover syndrome...

Haha, no, I already have it up to within two or three words of the maximum. But evidently I was a bit too cryptic in places and need to explain more. :D (It happens.)

It seems to be an increasing trend. I tend not to enter when I see any fee. Plus shorts aren't really my forte.
