'Obsolete' or just 'unrealised'?

The idea that the UN could be a world government is obselete. I don't know a lot about the UN, but from what I see it couldn't become a world government, as the resolutions it passes can't be enforced unless the most powerful (economically, militarily) member states agree. To say more would maybe violate Chrons rules.
But I'm no expert on the UN!

2010 A Space Odyssey Okay first of. We have no orbiting space stations, a Mooonbase and we haven't yet gone to Jupiter nor do we have have Hal 9000 computers . Then there is the whole issues of the Soviet Union still being around in 2010, yeh . Oh and no, we haven't made contact yet and Jupiter hasn't turned into a star. But all of that said, I still love this film..
