DISCUSSION -- JULY 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#26)

Thank you for the votes, Jo and Robert. And thank you for the mention, Starbeast. I've been feeling rather "down" and they lifted my mood - as did reading all the wonderful stories and the even more wonderful reviews.

Here's the result of the Ursa jury's deliberations, with the stories in posting order within the categories:

  • A Twin Promise by Stable
  • Mid-Summer by Lex E. Darion

Congratulations Robert Mackay

A big WELL DONE to everyone

Thank you for the mention @Starbeast

It brightens my day to get these. :)

You're very welcome, Lumens. Keep em flying

Damn, those are tempting, if only for the 'pointing at stuff with the end' potential.

How about pointing with this one?

Huge thanks to anyone who mentioned my little story! Means a lot, and to Teresa and Joshua for the votes. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)

There were a lot of good ones this month, and picking just three wasn't easy! Great work everyone

You're immensely welcome, Ratsy. Keep up the awesomeness.

Thank you @Starbeast for the mention and @Mad Alice for the stealth vote. I was 24 hours away from abandoning my poetry career, but you kind souls saved it!

You're very welcome, Heijan Xavier. Even if you didn't receive any votes or mentions, you're still a fantastic writer. And that can be said about all the authors this month. Voting is a challenge in itself, not to mention making Short Lists.

My Story: When I looked into those dark woods, "Noir Detective Mystery" came to mind. And then it kind of, mutated from there.

Congrats Robert! Amazing story. And congrats to Vaz and mosaix... wow, three stories this month with 10 or more votes. And so many other impressive entries. Wish we could have a 300 worder every month!

Thanks to all who listed my story, or voted for it. Greatly appreciated! Thank you, Chris Green, for the great photo; thanks to our thoughtful reviewer,Victoria; and to Ursa for the story thread, and poll. See you all - with three hundred words - in October!

(Missed TDZ in this quarter's challenge... maybe next time? ;))

Congratulations Robert on the deserved win. It was a story that really blossomed for me after reading, rather than during, with its ingenious concept. I didn't get to re-read it fully until after the vote but it had left a sufficiently great impression that I couldn't help but vote for it. After, when I did re-read it fully, I had time to appreciate the detail of the execution - very nicely done. Well played.

Oh. So. Wow. I'd try to look shocked, but that would imply that I didn't spend much of yesterday fretting and refreshing the poll page.

To quote someone much prettier than me, I'm truly, truly grateful and terribly happy.

Thanks to:
for the votes, and to everyone who mentioned or shortlisted Time Under Heaven.

I voted for @Wruter because I loved the concept, @TitaniumTi for making me laugh and @Phyrebrat for the conviction and the punch of his story.

Congratulations, Robert!! And well done Vaz and mosaix!

If anyone was wondering about the snide remark by Gingko in my entry, it is actually true that strictly botanically/arboreally speaking banana trees are not in fact trees, but are giant herbs with thick stems. It's also true that Gingko is the most ancient of living tree species, and its ancestors were around long before mammals. Not everyone else's boasting is necessarily accurate, though!
