Discussion Thread -- August 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

Well I'm going to get as many reviews as I can in the next half hour or so. This is one very busy week. I have Daily Vacation Bible School going on (which means 3+ hours of my evening are taken all week) and we are moving at the end of this month to our retirement condo (Retirement awaits the first of May)

@chrispenycate .... gives us a very clever poem which brings together the genre of steam punk and theme of tenderness in a train. It could only be titled "Tendering my Resignation."

@Ashleyne .... brings us to a post apocalyptic time when robots have feelings, and evil organizations like "RNB."

@Abernovo .... Shines a light on an act of heroism, courage, and perhaps something more as an AI finds "Ae Found Kiss."

@Ihe .... Gives us a tender turn on the Frankenstein myth as Flavius saves "Elsa." Or does he?

@Cathbad .... Introduces us to a robot bounty hunter who finds out that sometimes it is not "Just Another Bounty."

@dannymcg .... Goes very dark as he contemplates the formula Silica>Carbon, so carbon must be eliminated and soon the "Countdown" reaches zero.

@Dave Barsby .... Shudder! Dave has given us a steam punk version of Hansel & Gretel as the machines await "A Moment of Tenderness."

@Luiglin .... Brings us to a time when justice by lips best described as "Iron Justice."

@Victoria Silverwolf .... Helps us to understand that "Experience" is the best teacher of all.

@Calliopenjo .... helps us feel the longing in a machine to be human. The Question is "Man or Machine."

@Cat's Cradle .... Reminds us that when there money to be made, anyone and anything is fair game to "The Black Market."

Hey, hey, hey! I made it. Interesting stories all. So many of these are so dark that I can't use the word "lovely" to describe them. Sorry!

Many thanks Parson, Shyrka and Victoria for your reviews - much appreciated. I don't know how you manage to produce them month after month, really I don't.

Thank you for the lovely reviews, @Shyrka, and @Parson. I love how a story no longer belongs to an author once it's read.

Have a great retirement, Parson! You've earnt it. May you have more time to do things for yourself. A little treat here and there will not spoil you. :)

Thanks Parson

It's only a few months ago I started entering these challenges with little bits of daftness in my stories.
However, after reading through what others enter month after month one finds oneself getting a darker outlook in thought and deed.
As I wrote this an inspiration has hit me for a possible future yarn of really dark dark outcomes

@Vaz .... writes a poignant tale about from being separated..... I mean literally separated .... as the ship needs "Pieces of the Whole."

In case I forget to say it later in the month, I hope the move goes well!

PS Do we get to see a photo of the condo? Not that I'm sure what one is -- an apartment in a specially built block?

Congrats on the retirement, Parson! And I hope the move goes very well. Retirement is such a huge change in lifestyle ... I hope you have nothing but sunny days, ahead of you. (You'll have so much time to read now. And write challenge stories!:)) CC

Well, first of all a "condo" is short for condominium. There is no specific style of dwelling that belongs to that definition. They can be anything from single family dwellings to what you British would call "flats." Our condo is about half way between those two. It is duplex (2 adjoining dwellings) we have one side and as yet have no neighbors. The deal is that the condo association (in our case) takes care of the outside of the building, maintenance and yard work, and we own the inside and can do what we want there. The down side is the fee, and they have to approve an outdoor addition like a deck or something. --- Pictures, well if I can figure out "again" how to upload a picture to "photobucket." I'll try to post one by and by.

Ha! Success.... It's on a local golf course and a new build.

MAN or MACHINE, @Calliopenjo – A cybernetic being, forced to undergo augmentation by the demands of some future society, laments the loss of their humanity.

The Black Market, @Cat's Cradle – A moment of tenderness transforms into a moment of horror in this harrowing, all-too-familiar story of organ-snatching, told with a clever sci-fi twist.

Pieces from the Whole, @Vaz – A mechanical organism, himself old and decrepit, soldiers on to bring help for his dying friend in the hope that he might yet live on.

@AstroZon .... Reminds us that even in the worst of situations there are still those who have hope in the steam caves of "Gran Ursi."
