Pre-Writing and Outlining

Adding in another point, I have learned that I need to know where my story is going if I want any chance of writing something coherent. I've never had problems discovery writing a short story with small wordcounts, but anything of substantial length is a different animal. If I know where the characters or story will end, I can write my way to that point without feeling too restricted creatively. Its like a light at the end of the tunnel.
