Discussion -- February 2018 75-word Challenge

Many many congratulations Bob! A well deserved victory!

I was really chuffed to find myself in the lead briefly in the final straight, but I did realise there was plenty of time to go. Once you got your sixth vote I assumed that was it and went to sleep, only to wake at 1155 and make a quick check before falling unconscious once more.

I thank everyone who has voted and made it such an unusually open contest.

On another note: many many thanks to those five who voted for me. As I said earlier, I’ve never received more than two votes before, so this was totally unexpected.

I also need to clarify that I intended no put-down regarding the goddess Kali or the millions who venerate her. The story was from the perspective of an accounts clerk and detailed his “first” meeting with her.

Well done Bob. Good story :) congrats.

Big thanks to chrispenycate for being my only vote, at least I got one!! - (even getting a mention in someone's short list takes some doing with the high level entries that get posted)

Well done, Bob Senior!! Congrats on a very good entry, and an exciting victory. Looking forward to your choices for March's challenge.

So many good stories this month - congrats, too, to SPoots, for the cool theme.

Now, does anyone know if there's an Improving Our Four Word Stories thread? I think it might have been better... ;)

(Seriously, though, thanks so much for the votes and listings. I was a bit afraid I was insulting the spirit of the challenges by entering such a short piece, but once I thought of it, I kind of liked it. Why couldn't there be a Goddess or God of few words running the Universe?)

There has been a shorter one, CC. I think the theme was The Seven Deadly Sins or something like that.

Congrats, Bob! Commiserations Hugh and Shyrka who both put up spirited attacks on the leadership!

And Wagnerian thanks for the shortlisting, Ursa!

If I'm remembering correctly, that one had no words at all -- it was titled "Sloth"! (It also led to a speedy change in the rules.)

Congrats Bob! I'm always happy to see one of the entries I shortlisted win, even if I didn't actually vote for them. It makes me feel like I have some vague idea what I'm talking about!

Ooh, new votes! Thank you all, you're too kind.

*checks final vote tallies*

Oh... wow... that was a hell of a lot closer than I expected! Jeez. Thank you to all the last minute voters - I never expected much from this month's entry since it wasn't part of my usual oeuvre so to come in joint second (that's twice now - it's okay, I'm not bitter) is awesome.

Congratulations, Bob Senior! Well-deserved win.

Congratulations, Bob a great story indeed!

Thanks Abernovo and Littlestar for the mentions - esp the lovely words from Aber - and a big NO THANK YOU to all those people I paid to vote for my story but did a runner with the cash :D

Congratulations Bob! A great win by a well deserving gentleman. :D

On the subject of short stories I'm pretty sure I did one with one word, which was 'Nothing' - the subject was post apocalyptic or something like that.

No votes and no mentions this month, but considering the 300 word challenge I can't complain.

I think I missed the mark slightly as the reviewers interpretation did not seem to agree with what I was aiming for, so the writing let me down this time. Possibly I did not have enough room with 75 words.

In short: An old reality where science has progressed to unimaginable proportions manages to wipe itself out, but there is one of their kind who is something more than technologically enhanced. Jeva is able to draw all the destruction in - Jeva is neither male or female - Then recreate reality, becoming God. The inference being it is our reality being created. Some strange race memory, universal memory has recollection of the name Jeva - Jehovah...

I wanted to bring the usual tone of gods and goddesses down. First, I believe the major work of God to be more personal than most any story gives it credit to be. Second, because my beliefs have God interacting with humans dealing with the results of sin and evil in our personal lives and in our corporate living. I remembered a series best sellers of many years ago "The Joshua series" and a series whose name escapes me to the point I can't find it by Googling. The first book had a name of a small mythical town in the Northestern part of the USA. But, what I liked about the series was its non-hurried and peaceful pace.

Probably not. Jehovah comes in by Latin and then English, and has almost no relevance in Hebrew or Greek. The Second Temple Hebrews rather than speaking the "Holy Name" (Yahweh) and risk breaking the relevant commandment. Pointed the Hebrew "consonants" in such a way that so that they could avoid saying the word and that word is the basis of Jehovah ---- Now if Jeva is related to Yahweh, which it might be, then you have an argument.
