Star Trek - Discovery - 1.15: Will You Take My Hand

...although you might find some obscure reference book depicting the crew of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65), it's highly unlikely to include references to their families, nor any classified data...
Wow! I never realised that the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) had disappeared off the face of the Earth for 9 months, while it visited another dimension, and then reappeared again. Yes, no one at all would have written endlessly about that conspiracy theory, and linked it to the man on the grassy knoll, and the faked Apollo 11 Moon Landings. o_O;)

That (above) said, I can't help but see a parallel in the spore drive and what the Starfleet ship Pegasus was trying to do.
Maybe, if you don't mean a link between the research. The Pegasus experiments were with a Federation Cloaking Device, and I saw a clear parallel there to the conspiracy theories around WWII Radar experiments and supposed accidental access to other dimensions (IMHO all rubbish) which were the basis for the film The Philadelphia Experiment and The Philadelphia Experiment II. I agree though, those Pegasus events (if not the Philadelphia events too) were expunged from the history of the future, so why not Spore Drive too.

I'd been willing to give Discovery the benefit of the doubt over Bury your Gays, which led us right into ye hoary old chestnut Depraved Bisexual, a path along which which Star Trek itself is the most egregious walker - almost all Mirror Universe folk are shown to be bisexual at one point or another, so I'm sure some will argue that this is just continuing ye fine old Star Trek tradition of problematic representations of bisexuality, but it now comes from ACTUAL LGBT WRITERS (who forget that the B is in there for a reason) who have been begging us to hold on and trust them.

As angry as I was about Discovery's use of the "bury your gays" trope, when Culber and Stamets kissed, it felt earned.

Not shoe horned in, like in Star Trek Beyond or in Torchwood, where it felt so forced. Captain Jack going "I'm gay!, I'm so very gay! Did I mention I'm gay today?" Despite being advertised as pan-sexual by Russell T. really grated. But I digress

I really liked Stamets and Culber's relationship and I'm still clinging to the promise the writers made when they said Culber's story isn't over.

As for the mirrors' use of the "Depraved Bi-sexual" trope, I'm willing to give them a pass, as sex there isn't a beautiful manifestation of a deeply personal bond between like minded individuals (laying it on thick with the "Purple Prose" there), but yet another cold cynical tool to further the self serving agenda (seemingly) every Terran has.

...Or it's just the lazy perpetuation of a damaging trope which Star Trek has turned to time and again.

If you are still interested in Stamets and Culber's love affair, you may find this news interesting.

Aaron and Gretchen explained what was gonna happen and told me I was part of the story for next season. This is a longer, epic love story and this is just a part of that that we have to do in order to tell it. I know what that story is and as an actor, I’m really excited about it. But even as a viewer, I think that’s gonna be fun to watch!
