Environmental activism SFF recommendations wanted

I've been trying over the last couple of days to find SFF novels about trying to save the environment, set in our world or one very similar -- in other words, not following a future environmental catastrophe (which are fairly plentiful), but beforehand. I haven't had much luck, so has anyone got any recommendations?

It sounds like you've discovered a gap in the market - I can see a YA novel centered on this doing well.

Ah, you deduced my cunning plan! But I'm surprised they don't exist in numbers already, and it would have been useful to see how others handled the subject before taking a blind leap into the unknown.
