Good Slow-Moving Novels etc.

I found all of the Gormenghast books to be fairly slow reads, though I did read them when I was very young and a slower reader.
I remember the plot taking its time, though I enjoyed the expansiveness of the world.
 
Just finished Dean Koontz's
Fear Nothing
and
Seize the Night

These both seemed to be long drawn out stories even though they took place in a short span of time.
Much like the assesment @Extollager makes with The Thirty-Nine Steps--since the books are suspense thrillers and they are well over 300 pages--Although I'd have to admit that Koontz manages to pull it off; however for me it was touch and go when I had to get past 100 pages before the building suspense begins to pay out and start to keep me awake.
