DISCUSSION -- JULY 2018 300-word Writing Challenge (#30)

ooh, good picture. look forward to seeing what people come up with.

Having now entered two challenges and not receiving one vote (I'm not bitter!), I'm feeling that I'm woefully under armed against the weaponized minds of the Chrons!
I need to step up my game...somehow.
If it was just for votes I'd have stopped entering years ago, I think I had 10 entries one year with the grand total of two votes.

Yeah, and I had a couple of good months, and now I am fading into the background. But, I didn't come here for votes; I came here to be a better writer, and I believe I am improving significantly. Success in these things just depends on why you are here.

Yeah, particularly Erin. Remember her last photo for the Challenge? Little blue-hooded creature from the depths of Hell, standing on the sidewalk by the hedge? That was a selfie.
I do remember that picture... my daughter started running around with her blankie on her head during that month, which was one of the most unsettling moments in recent memory. It felt like that image had somehow began possessing my 3 year old!

Unfortunately, the image is too large to upload here, but if I can find a work around, I will post it.

Holy moly not only have I actually thought up a story for this time around, I’ve written it before unlocking time! This is unprecedented! Could this signal a new period of creativity and writing from me!*

*Our survey says unlikely :D

I'm working on it. Not quite ready yet because for one it's overcount. The other is that I'm trying to be sure it's a story and not a mix of words that you might have to turn around in order to read it. It should be ready in time though.

I finally got it. It's just one word below the max. I can live with that. Even better, it might even resemble something close to a story.

All right. I posted my story. I don't name my stories well but I try. It's the part of writing that I hate. I don't mind the research or the editing so much. It's the part when I have to put a name to my story that I hate. I was told to try Shakespeare, try the Bible. Neither of those work.

AstroZon -- This realistic and suspenseful science fiction adventure story is full of surprises for the narrator and the reader.

Rafellin -- This urban fantasy creates a completely original setting with style and wit.

HoopyFrood -- The author creates an eerie parallel in this imaginative fable.

Calliopenjo -- This haunting tale of the uncanny is sure to intrigue the reader's fancy.

Cory Swanson -- The unique style of this chilling story captures the strangeness of its narrator.

Thank Victoria.

I read yours just now. Survivors enjoying a brief escapist evening provided by a masquerade ball in a world destroyed by war or climate change (or perhaps both.) Very creative!

Conceding defeat this month.
I've looked again and again at that picture and theme and my thoughts are blank (tumbleweed rolling through the empty desert) so no entry this time :(

Just let it kick around in the back of your head a few days more. You may still have a eureka moment :)

I honestly wasn't too thrilled with the picture either as I'm more on the Sci-Fi side of things and less on the Fantasy. Still, I managed to work it into a space themed story.

Just write something that interest you, and then try to work the image into it later.
