Apple Gives Series Order for Isaac Asimov's Foundation

I struggled to get into them years ago, just didn't grip me at all, compared to his robot books. But I'd love to see it filmed.
It's actually quite strange that they chose Foundation over something like Caves of Steel. Caves of Steel would be much more accessible to the casual viewer since it's a science fiction detective story.

Totally agree. After all Star Trek's Data is partly based on Asimov's robots

If you're a great fan of Asimov's books you may be disappointed since this adaptation is hardly faithful to any degree. It's been updated to appeal to a much wider audience; specifically the Game of Thrones crowd.

It sounds like they blew it.:(

It depends if you wanted a faithful retelling. I don't think the average viewer will care. Would I have preferred if they followed Asimov's story more closely? Yes. Is it awful? No. The acting is good and it is gorgeous, there are just some elements I could definitely do without.

I don't like it when thye reimagine something I like beyond recognition . That tends to tick me off.

Your thoughts, Zeph?

I don't know how sensitive people here are to spoilers, so I'll try to not to, unless specifically asked.

The first thing that bugged me though was the fact that Gaal Dornick is put to cryo-sleep for the journey to Trantor, because of the hyper-jump. In the books, this is a solved problem. Sure, in the days of Elijah Bailey the hyper-jump caused discomfort, but hello, Foundation is 20,000 years in the future, they figured that out, and Asimov mentions this on several occasions. Cryo-sleep is not a thing in the Foundation universe.

There is a lot of other things that bug me, like the diversity and inclusion police reassigning genders to key characters, or the inexplicable romantic subplot that adds nothing.

I understand TV is a different medium and the story needs to be treated to make it work on screen. But that's not what this is.

Also, what is it with all the British accents in SF nowadays? That's a weird Hollywood thing.

On a positive note, the visual splendor is awesome. Everything looks amazing.

That's a good observation, although I never watched GoT. But unlike that show, Foundation has to be family friendly because Apple, so you will not see anything remotely arousing.
