DISCUSSION THREAD- January 2019- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the review, @Victoria Silverwolf. Apologies for the recent bout of radio silence - Christmas and family has rather gotten in the way of writing (and even forum checking!) lately.

The gibbering tentaclepunk idea I had just wouldn't fit in a 75 worder, it needs an appropriate 300 worder. Back to Plan B then and roll out a Dark Lord. At least I'm in.

@Shyrka .... A Kick in the Teeth .... The Shy One tells of tale that reminds us that there is no free lunch or even an easy one.

@Luiglin .... Game Night .... Luiglin has the Dark Lord make an appearance to restate a maxim about the root of all evil.

(I feel compelled to say that the Biblical quote in question is that "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.") [Sorry, a Parson does not easily slip out of character.]

I'd never have expected anything to less :)

No doubt if there'd been more words the Minion would have corrected him ;p

Word-count pixie here. Sadly, we've had to disqualify an entry, and I just wanted to remind people to be careful with word-processors' word-count functions. In this case there were words joined together with ellipses (and no spaces between), which the program would have counted as single words rather than two.

**Quickly navigates to the story thread to make sure mine is still there**

Phew! Thank heavens for fingers and toes, the best word-count function there is (y)

If you go over word count then your entry for the month is disqualified. You do have an hour from posting in which you can edit, also if we notice within the hour we would message to give the chance to edit.
Best thing is double check word count. I always check by hand.
Mods have also been disqualified in the past.

Just for clarification, how do you count ellipses - are they a word or not?

Says in the rules, not a word even if independent.

Ah yes, I should have probably referred back to the rules before asking the stupid question:

Items of stand-alone punctuation (eg ellipses ... or long dashes -- ) will not be included in the word count, whatever your word processor may say.

Note to self: check rules first :)

It comes down to how Word expects them to be used. According to Word, the correct grammatical use of an ellipse is

word... next word

It then doesn't count miscount. I know in reality the ellipse can be used with various spaces, there's no hard or fast rule, but that's how Word works.

Sorry guys. My mistaken use of ellipses. Pah. Sloppy bugger!

Still; it's always good to learn something new. :) Keep posting those stories but check three ways!
