Spotting old books and magazines and dummy newspapers in TV, movies and old photos

Not sure if this has been used yet or if the photo has been digitally altered but here it is, Twilight Zone:

I think that must be a fake, though quite a clever one for sure. It seems like something one would have heard about before, if one is in fandom, etc.

What's the source?

If it is a Twilight Zone episode it can only be one of four episodes because that's Burgess Meredith and he was only IN four episodes of the Twilight Zone.

- Printer's Devil (1963) ... Mr. Smith
- The Obsolete Man (1961) ... Romney Wordsworth
- Mr. Dingle, the Strong (1961) ... Luther Dingle
- Time Enough at Last (1959) ... Henry Bemis

I have them all on disc.

Okay. fake or not, I'm 99.9% sure it's not from The Twilight Zone. I just FFd through all four episodes with him in.

I think this might be the Jesse James issue on display, given the shape of the hat and something else (the woman's hair?) below the letters:

Here are the data for the Jesse James issue, if that's the right one:

And here are some comics that were on sale at the same time:

This issue of Mystic seems to fit the photo below, and would have been on sale at the time.

Here may be the issue of Action Comics:

The boy seems to be looking at this issue of Superman, maybe just released (Oh, I see M. Robert Gilson just published a picture of it):

So the photo probably dates to March 1956.

And since the comics seem to be from May 1956, this Casper cover matches - light Casper on a darker background with a small full length Casper at the top left

This searching is too addictive, I'm going to have to stop soon, but here's April 1956 Action Comics, which seems to match with what is shown - dark background with lighter title block background
