Thanks to the fantastic 4 who voted for me it is greatly appreciated, and a slightly smaller but no less heartfelt thanks to those who mentioned the story.
Congratulations @Cat's Cradle - a great story, very gritty and tense. A worthy winner!
Thank you for the votes @Parson@chrispenycate@Luiglin and @Garfunkel and to those who mentioned me. My first 300 worder and I thoroughly enjoyed both writing it and reading the entries.
Congrats on the win, @Cat's Cradle! And I hope your kitty is doing okay. Our little girl has an ear infection at the moment so is very out of sorts, grumping all around the house...
A big thank you to @Ursa major, @LittleStar, @Tywin, @Rafellin, @Dan Jones, @Cathbad, @Hugh, @dannymcg, and @scarpelius for the votes! A very pleasant surprise to do so well this month, because I feel I always struggle in the three hundred. I didn't have much of an idea for this one, so I ended up setting it in an existing world I'd been building, and threw the action down a mine shaft! It turned out to be a good exercise - it gave me an idea I hadn't thought of to take back across.
Poor kitty. Hope she's feeling better very soon, @Culhwch! Ear infections are no fun.
We were worried our girl had a hip or vertebrae fracture, after a bad fall, but it turned out to be only swelling. She's wearing an opioid patch, and feeling just fine. Thanks again for the kinds words on my story, all.
