DISCUSSION -- OCTOBER 2019 300-word Writing Challenge (#35)

Congratulations, Peter! It was a very clever story, and I almost gave it a vote, and part of me wishes I had done so to spare us all the tension of the past few days. It was almost too much for me, so I'm glad it's over and I can now have a lie down.

As for my story, I was unsure whether or not to write another Sir Reggie story, as I was worried that he might be overstaying his welcome, or (shock, horror) might be skeetering a tad too close to the boundaries of taste. But with some encouragement from his (very) small but (very) unhinged fan club, I decided to go back to the well for the 94th time. I was then torn over whether the stage would feature Extinction Rebellion or the Ukranian kickboxing champion and his criminally insane brother. I elected for XR to lend the story greater topical relevance and, hopefully, gravitas.

Anyway!

Asparagus-structured thanks are due to those who mentioned my story, such as the ever-delightful @Starbeast (Tekeli-li!), the spaced-out @M. Robert Gibson, and the never-less-than-fabulous @Phyrebrat (thanks for the kwassa kwassa).

But a special, climate-conscious, Merchant-Ivory-inspired Afrojam of gratitude must be directed to @Venusian Broon, @Luiglin, and @Mouse for the votes. I hope you get better soon.

Congrats to Peter V!
After ditching my puppet idea, the picture most reminded me of dance. I have performed in recitals, and more recently, dance in a weekly salsa practice held in a old hall. But the main inspiration came from an old Kinks song ‘Come Dancing’. I love the nostalgia of it, and though I missed that era growing up, I know I would fit right in.

We can safely say (depending on how one pronounces this word) that your story successfully put the ass/arse in gravitas. :)

Well, I'm sure some people thought it was rock bottom.

And humble apologies, Bear, as I just realised I forgot to include you in my list of thanks. Have a belated thank you for the mention, and an asparagus for later :)

Congratulations Peter, commiserations, Victoria.

For me the stories that really struck a chord were ones of a sentient theatre - must be the luvvy in me - and made me feel all Sunset Boulevard :D

I'd recently watched A Room With a View and the whole thing about Lucy Honeychurch playing Beethoven stuck with me, conflated with an old french music hall and ..er... somehow UFO's the MIB and cattle mutilations came out.

Vivre Le Cigare Volante!

Thank's again to everyone and well done to Victoria for another significant and excellent entry in a 300 challenge. I think you are certainly setting the bar these days.

It was a tie, let's be honest. I got a bit lucky to sneak in to level with the last couple of votes.

Can I now officially classify myself an "award winning author"?
