What Should Be The Next Great Saga In The Star Wars Universe ?

I'm glad that we have got this saga over as now we can go to other places and do other things than just focus on the jedi/sith stories.

Discard and replace episodes 1-3 with a compelling story about Anakin's downfall and Ben's complicity.

The only way that could have happened is, if Lucas stood aside let someone else, direct, write and produce episodes 1-3 .

It’s a big universe.

I’d like to see something darker in tone and more adult in content. There is plenty of room for both a Flash Gordon and a Game of Thrones style of story telling.
I reckon Ming the Merciless would add a little je ne sais quoi to the franchise.

Absolutely :)

If Lucas still controlled the franchise, Jedi would be running around on ever lengthening stilts just to keep the high ground.

Lucas didn't really know where to go with the franchise.

Personally, I'd like to see them move away from the Jedi and the Sith and the Skywalkers and the Solo's. Some have suggested another time in the Galaxy's history. I'm not so sure. I did enjoy the two stand alone movies, although I did think Solo could've been better and didn't deserve to be the box office failure it was. I would've liked to have seen a Lando follow up as Donald Glover was superb.

The TV shows seem to be having a lot of success. The Mandalorian is great and I have read a lot of really great things about Filoni's Clone wars series. (I haven't yet seen it, but I have the first five series at home and will get series 6 and 7 and binge watch the lot.)

I'd love to see a series looking at the morality of the Star Wars universe. Slave ownership, Droids have no rights, the apparent racism of the Empire and it's Bias to Humans, Bounty Hunters, Spice. The list goes on.

I’m concerned about the lack of vision that Lucasfilm and Disney have displayed for the franchise.

You mean you're not excited for the third straight series focusing on storm troopers? I could not be more tired/bored of the apparent obsession with clone troopers. Bad enough Lucas had to wreck their cool by smashing Boba Fett and the Stormtroopers together in the first place, they follow that with the Clone Wars, Mandalorian, and now the Bad Batch... is Disney contracting out their story-writing to military recruitment centers or something?

I think I'm done with this franchise.

This trilogy seemed like they just made it up each day with no actual plan in place.

From what I've read, that's exactly what they did. It's hard to believe this decision was made by the same company that pulled off a 20+ film Marvel film saga that blew everyone in the world away.

The only clear option, to my mind, is a family comedy following the misadventures of a long suffering group of Nerf herders.

This actually sound infinitely more appealing to me than another endless sludge alongside cynically hard-bitten clone commandos.

I’m not done yet, but I do need to be drawn back in. A new story. No Jedi, no lightsabers or Force sensitives, no Solo’s, no Skywalkers.

I liked R1, so maybe something focusing on the troops? Plenty of scope for dissent and defection. A good, old fashioned war movie.

Maybe something about the criminal underworld (which appears to be huge). Smugglers, slavery and Bounty Hunters are a normal part of this cruel universe. A lot of scope to examine motives, loyalties and histories of some of the undesirables of the universe.

Declaring episodes VII-IX as a dream Luke had after ingesting bad blue milk, subsequently crashing his speeder into a Sandcrawler, and starting over with an arc about a Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

They didn't do a good job with the Solo movie. I enjoyed it, but Han and Chewie's meeting and the Kessel Run just didn't ring right to me, at all.

Let the past stay in the imagination. Move away from the main conflict. I'm keen to see the second series of The Mandalorian, as it's hitting the spot for a lot of fans. If it's a good as the first series, Disney may want to make a movie of part of his story. Perhaps an epic Finale to his arc?

If Season 2 gets the kind of rave attention Season 1 did, I suspect that's exactly what will happen. The production values, which are truly excellent in the Mandalorian might make a movie the only possible way to recoup a large financial loss.

Now that the Skywalker saga has come to the end. In terms of feature films , where should they go with Stars Wars ? Past or Future ? What should be the next great saga? And if not a new a epic saga , what about just having stand alone films set in the Star Wars universe that are not directly connected to anything ?

Thoughts ? :)

A five-minute short: The Annihilation of the Galaxy.

I'd like them to stop. Just stop, nothing more, nothing less.

Rampant fandom has turned a pretty good original trilogy into a complete cash-grabbing mess. I really liked the originals as a kid and even wore out my Return of the Jedi VHS tape... but it wasn't actually all that good or worthy of the constant glory it's achieved. Great for its day, decent story arc, cool special effects, but nearly nothing about it made any logical sense whatsoever :)

Star Wars has a single selling point:
Magic Space Samurai

Maybe I've just been soured by all the prequels, spin-offs, and sequels though...

Blackadder:
Bob, take a telegram. "To Mr. C. Chaplin, Sennet Studios, Hollywood, California. Congrats stop. Have found only person in world less funny than you stop. Name: Baldrick stop. Signed, E. Blackadder stop". Oh, and put a P.S.: "Please, please, please... stop."
