Currently reading the first one, not formed an opinion yet

King wrote a decent one called The Doctor's Case, in which Watson solves the mystery and Holmes is impressed. It's in one of his collections - Graveyard Shift, maybe, or The Dark Half? Or another one.
Will check it out. Sounds like a must read.

is also found in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes:

(It's a most satisfying guilty pleasure to watch the good doctor take old school aspie Holmes down a peg or two.) Solar Pons also works for me, although it may be a little too down market for high brow aficionados:

There's an excellent radio drama Sherlock Holmes vs Dracula (and not as cheesy as it sounds!). Only 90 minutes long and available on Youtube.

I'm not sure what prompted me to remember this thread, but a couple of titles came to mind:

"Murder to Music" -- Anthony Burgess. Haven't read it but thought the author might pique your interest. Besides a Burgess collection, it's shown up in a couple of anthologies.

A Three-Pipe Problem by Julian Symons. My impression has been that Symons -- younger brother of A. J. A. Symons -- was one of the most literary mystery writers of his generation. Probably 40 years since I read this, I recall it as entertaining and well-thought-out. The story involves an actor playing Sherlock Holmes in a TV show, being drawn into a murder investigation and finding it necessary to try and use Holmes' methods to solve it.

There is a short story called I think "A Study In Emerald" but I can't remember who wrote it, but it is a very, very interesting take on Holmes with a very unexpected ending!
