Well that was a squeaker! I was sure there near the end that nixie was going to forge ahead of me. Or Mr Orange overtake us both. It was an honor to win against such fine stories.

Many thanks to Victoria, Parson, nixie, M. Robert Gibson, chrispenycate, elvet, Culhwch, Shyrka, and Little Star for the votes, and to everyone who mentioned my story.

  • ...Before You Find Your Prince. by mosaix

A vote at the death! Many thanks UM.

I'd really given up on my entry this month after posting the wrong version.

The line:

“But this? But how can you be so sure?”

Should have been:

“But this? And how can you be so sure?”

Let that be a lesson - read and reread before the editing window closes.

Congratulations, Teresa! Nicely done!

Let me just say that I'm absolutely flabbergasted by all the mentions that my story got, and I really wish I'd thought of it with an hour or more to spare, as it might have even garnered a vote or two! :D

Congratulations @Teresa Edgerton ! A great story that probably would have got my vote if i had been in a different mood.

Many thanks for that. I was hoping for a late surge but also not, as it felt a bit wrong for a story that shamelessly crowbarred so many Monty Python references in to be in the running

So, at the moment, just two entries have attracted 40% of the votes! Well done both.

If you include my story then 3 entries got 50% of the votes. Just sayin'...:unsure::giggle:

Congrats, @Teresa Edgerton ! From the moment I read your entry, I knew it was going to be close to impossible to beat. A couple made a valiant go of it, I must say, but none stayed with me quite like yours did.

And thanks as well to you and @The Judge for the votes! And thanks to those who listed or mentioned my story too - much appreciated. I was pretty happy with my story this month, so I'm glad to see it struck a chord (or a heart string?) with a few of you!

Congrats @Teresa Edgerton and thanks for the mentions folks.

I went for @BigJ just because I liked the way his 75 flowed.

As to mine. I'm still not happy with it. It works fine as the opening part of a RPG scenario to get the Bower Knight in play with a base premise for how she acts but as a tale in itself, meh.

Well that went right to the wire, which is always fun for those watching. Probably less so for those in the mix.
@LittleStar saving us from a tie breaker at the death!

Should it have gone that way, having not voted for either originally, I would have gone for @Teresa Edgerton. I only say that because it leads me into the repeating niggle I have (I have mentioned this before.) Now it may be me being stupid, but I found it difficult to locate the memento in @nixie story, loved the story in itself, but even after a few re-reads (just read it again to be certain of myself) didn’t feel the Theme. Maybe @The Judge can adjudicate? I like to vote for a story that captures both aspects, as the competition suggests on the pole post.
Personally I rejected an earlier story of mine, which I preferred from the romantic aspect, but I couldn’t successfully shoehorn in a memento.
So I felt a bit frustrated such a large % voted for one missing the theme (my opinion) at the expense of many good stories ticking both boxes - ‘Rant’ over :censored::)

Well done everyone for a great month, given what a good few people thought might be a tricky genre. Thanks @elvet for milking our creativity (y)
