DISCUSSION THREAD -- February 2020 -- 75-Word Writing Challenge

Well, I'm in, in what is probably my earliest entry.
I haven't read any of the others yet, so apologies if there's any similarities

Just for fun trivia: Since I had the honour of setting both the 100 Anon and the 75 this month, anyone see the connection?

These contests are judged in part by adherence to the theme. "Romantic fantasy" doesn't seem to defined by a romantic relationship - though it can:

"One of the key features of romantic fantasy involves the focus on relationships, social, political, and romantic.

Common plot archetypes[edit]

  1. A teenager, typically either from an overly strict or abusive family (or alternately from a family or a village that has been slain by bandits or monsters) runs away and discovers that they possess either magical or psychic powers and a glorious destiny. This destiny often involves saving a city, kingdom, or other large group from harm by a powerful villain or a dangerous monster."

Given that some will score down a piece that doesn't meet the theme, can someone make the official call which kind of romantic fantasy makes the cut?

I wasn't sure where to aim with 'romantic fantasy', so I've researched and come up with a very similar answer. I'm.... unsure of what I've got right now, I'll sleep on it a bit I think. To me it fits, but I need to get some distance and look at it again.

Nixie’s right.

From my own personal experience of the 75 I distinctly remember, on more than one occasion, reading a theme / genre for the first time and thinking ‘oh no, what on Earth am I going to do with that?’, only to discover that there is a certain amount of pleasure in overcoming adversity (for want of a better word).

Also, on occasion, when not a single idea has occurred to me the very act of sitting down and writing starts the ideas flowing.

This just happened again - and I'm in!

Well, I have no idea of the pleasure part yet but exactly what I'm feeling with the 100 worder in Workshop.

@Victoria Silverwolf .... Till Death .... Victoria makes me wonder about the point at which lover's promise becomes terrifying.

@Hugh .... “Oh-dah-oh-dah-lay-ee-hee” .... Hugh writes a truly original and completely weird tale, but he still writes a truly romantic tale.

@mosaix .... ...Before You Find Your Prince .... Mosaix does a clever twist on a woman's axiom and a romantic fairy tale.

Who says it's not good enough??!

SLAP!!

Anyhow, will you be entering at all, Luiglin? If you're positive you won't be entering, I'll leave this good story here where I can't steal it, but if there's any possibility you'll get your head round the horribly difficult** theme and genre, it's best if this is kept until after voting so I'll take it away for its own protection.

** that's sarcasm, just in case it's misinterpreted!
