The Evolution of your ideas: a somewhat rambling perspective

If anybody wants to share ideas that didn't work, or did, or changed into something else, or wants to run anything past us that they feel doesn't quite feel right maybe, feel free to post.

Note: I realise I used the word feel three times in the one sentence there. Shoot me.

Does she feel the feels I feel when I feel her feel feel my... annnnnd I have to stop there. Family friendly forum...

Anyway... my experience is similar to most here. I don't even know how many tentative complete ideas I have docketed for future exploration, not to mention characters, widgets, plot elements... I tend to hold onto them to see if there's a way to either incorporate them into a WiP or mutate them into something entirely different. I like how one Chron staffer put it to me once... Ideas are easy. We tend to be an imaginative lot. Discipline to complete something is another matter altogether.

Yes, I absolutely agree. Ideas pour out of me like, um, I don't have any idea like what at the moment, but, you know. Putting them into practice is the hard part. It's probably not quite fair to say anyone can have an idea - some people are very unimaginative - but it probably is fair to say any writer or aspiring writer can have an idea. It's what you do with it that counts.

Not quite the same, but it does remind me of I think an old Twilight Zone episode which ended with the alien sniggering "Dying is easy. Comedy: now that's hard!"

To be fair, we were talking about SFF readers and writers being a rather imaginative sort... and that sounds like Twilight Zone to me too...

No, I wasn't referring to your comment. I was just making a general observation, like "anybody can write a song" or whatever. I know you mentioned writers and the people here, and that my comment might have looked like it was responding to yours. It wasn't.

The TZ episode was, I believe, called A Small Talent For War. It might have been Outer Limits, but I don't think so.
