Discussion Thread -- OCTOBER 2020 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge (#39)

Is there anything in life I dont wonder about occasionally,
Like how they get ships in a bottle,
Or how babies learn to toddle,
Maybe its a sign of the times,
But I suspect my brain aint doing fine....

And not only in the 300-worder....
Or, in my case, making it more difficult than it should be for shoehorning something in that shouldn't be there and making sure I don't get any votes.

If @nixie is about that is a fact and not an opinion. This does not warrant any sort of virtual admonishment that rhymes with bap, cap, chap, scrap, mishap, mousetrap, wiretap, kneecap, entrap, madcap or just plain crap :p

I thought it was already clear that no link is required.
And the guaranteed way of seeing such a story is for you to write one....

You’re on! Only I was hoping to savour someone else’s inspiration, rather than grind away at something that isn’t nearly as entertaining as it should be or as satisfying as one would hope. Oh well. Boaty McBoatface and the Legend of the Blue Lagoon it is.

The water is no longer (explicitly) flat...

But does feature in a story that appeared from nowhere. It's why I love these competitions. The inpirational kick is so pure.

I am surprised no one has mentioned

"Come sail away. Come sail away. ... I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise, they climbed aboard their starships and headed for the skies. Come sail away. Come sail away. ...."

If only I had writing credit for it.

Just a reminder -- the Challenge thread will open tomorrow, so those of you who are standing like greyhounds in the slips, straining upon the start, don't forget to use the remaining time to check over your story prior to posting. Editing and revising are necessary skills to learn for those who want to see their work published, and that goes double for those who want to go the trad route who will need to impress agents and/or publishers.

Even if your ambitions don't aim that high, the work you put in to editing etc can make all the difference when it comes to shortlists and votes, so don't neglect it.

My first attempt has blown out to 400 words and I don't want to hammer it down so I'm back to the drawing board.

Another good story from you, Rafellin -- that poetic tone as he's sitting there was just right.

I like your story, too, Wayne -- very chilling!
