Carrie by Stephen King--relatively short and twisted.
Hey-zus, Vince. That was terrible.
F. Paul Wilson. The Keep. If you like that, it is part of the 8 book Adversary Cycle, which is part of his larger “Otherness” series of books. I read them all a couple of years ago and it was great.
never liked rollins... it seems to be missing somethingTry the Sigma face novel by Rollins the first book is Sandstorm
Also. Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
'The Haunting of Hill House' by Shirley Jackson frightened me a little bit. And is 'literary' so leave around the place for people to acknowledge. Also, supposedly one of the 'greatest books' written by an American. [Stephen King]
My own copy jumped off the shelf during night shift. I didn't read any of it during night shift. Written by the author of 'The Lottery,' [short story] or similar - which is on-line - and studied, admired by creative writer types, so you can check out the opposition, saying things like:
'Meh, I could have written that...'
The Problem of Cell 13.
Reading that next...Ray Bradbury’s The October Country
Yes the Keep is good, but the series connection is very tenuous. Treat em as standalones.Hey-zus, Vince. That was terrible.

In every way! A delight!Roger Zelazny's A Night in Lonesome October might fit the bill in several ways.
