Reboots?

The Thing is an example of an excellent remake. The Thing is an example of a terrble reboot.


Do you mean the prequel? I thought that was okay. Not as good as the Carpenter/Russell movie, but a decent enough attempt at suggesting what happening before.
 
Total Recall was.... different. Not as good, but enjoyable enough.

I haven seen Clooney’s Solaris.
 
Reboot versus remake: I've the impression that a remake is of a single film, whereas a reboot is a series - so you'd have a remake of Serenity, but a reboot of Firefly...

I can see what you mean, a Reboot does fit a TV series better than Remake.
but for films I think it can be either, and I'd go along with others and say that a Remake is more of the same... A Reboot is a twist on the tale, however slight.

Yes, tv series are usually reboots. In fact I'd be hard pressed to think of a tv series that attempted to reproduce an older show. Reboots are a plenty, but none that I would call remakes.
